What is this crazy magic?

I'm seeing posts a hour ahead of me.
I'm in Arkansas. Shouldn't I be in the same time zone as the SD?
Can this be a time warp?
I'm...kinda...
Scared!

All I can do to help figure your time thing out is to tell you that Nashville is at 3:14 AM as I type this.

Beck, you can adjust the board to your time zone.

Go to User CP (top left) --> Edit Options.

Scroll down to Date and Time Options. There's a drop-down where you can select your time zone. Drop the list, select your time zone, then scroll down and hit the Save Changes button. That should do it.

Hey, keep it down!
I was thinking about the stock market, but an hour is better suited for betting on sporting events.

Define normal.

I am curious to see the time stamp here and will edit afterwards.

Right on the button. I have a feeling either your SDMB setting or the default got changed to EST.

Never mind the TIME: what day are you seeing?

For reference mine says 11:05 AM and it's Jan 24, 2020.

(Cue Twilight Zone music)

Oh, I'm screwed.
My time zone is set to 'Central time zone'

Today Oaklawn horse racing opens, in Hot Springs. Any one going? I'll tell you which horse to bet. We'll clean up!
Y'all are 2 hours ahead of me now.

Did you recently happen to jump to the left, then step to the right, with your hands on your hips, bringing your knees in tight?

Can you flash forward to T+6-months and tell me if I lost 20lbs? If not, I’m quitting my diet right now.

It seems I've caught up.
I saw the future.
I learned exactly nothing from this excercise. Not sure why the illuminati* wanted to pick on me. But, dang, I'm glad it's over!!
I felt discombobulated all day.

Dammit, I was on a roll, and you had to bring reality back!
I bought stock at $5, was planning to sell it an hour later at $8.
THEN you brought the right time back!
Dammit, you owe me $3!

It looks like it might just be those server time-out errors hitting you, making your posts get held up in limbo for an hour before appearing on the board.

I'm a full time-zone or two in the other direction. I've been noticing that posts that I make here are showing up on this board a full hour before I post them!

This is quite convenient, it turns out. Instead of having to type all the posts that I make (this one itself, for example), I simply note posts made by me that show up an hour before I make them. Then I just copy the whole post to the clipboard or to a temporary file, then wait an hour, then open a new post or Reply box and copy the text into that rather than having to type it all, and submit it.

Sometimes I decide I don't like the post and I wish to change it. But I know I MUST resist such urges, as all attempts to alter the past are doomed to fail in one way or another, usually disastrously. (See: Any sci-fi time travel show, particularly on Star Trek or Twilight Zone. Or worse still, that old Time Tunnel series.) If I change a post that's already appeared before I post it, I imagine the whole universe would bifurcate with a separate instance of me going into each one, and one of those universes would be alien beyond recognition. I hate when that happens.

Oh by-the-way -- Did you happen to note if you were logged in or out when you saw your posts with wrong time-stamps?

Assuming you've set your time-zone correctly, posts will be shown with the correct time-stamp (for your location).

If you are not logged in, then the board doesn't know who you are and thus doesn't know where you are. In that case, it appears that posts are simply shown with the time stamp of the board's home time zone.

Which is Central Time, the same as Arkansas.

Too many variables.

Why is my life so hard? I live a simple country life. I don't bother people on purpose.
Why is karma such a bitch?

carnie- I'll pay the $3, maybe on Tues.

Fun fact: Thailand is 17 hours ahead of Hawaii. And traveling time from Bangkok to Honolulu including time on the ground changing planes in Japan or Taiwan is routinely about 17 hours. So you land in Hawaii after all that traveling at about the same time and day (you cross the international date line) as when you left. Or maybe about 20 minutes later, making it a 20-minute trip.

It reminds me of when I flew to Boise once for business (I live in the Seattle area) on a little puddle jumper plane. The flight back home took less than an hour, so my arrival time was earlier than my departure time.

Imagine if I flew home just after midnight, I could have arrived the previous day.

Similarly, in Indonesia, flying from Denpasar on Bali to Yogyakarta on Java is a one-hour flight, and the time-zone boundary falls right between the two islands, so you land at the same time you left.

That reminds me of the time I embarked on scenic tour of New Jersey from Cleveland on a Friday the 13th leap year. Well, mid-flight the United pilot decided to hot dog in his Boeing 737 and exceeded the speed of light. Then, he did a loop-de-loop and a barrel roll.

Long story short, when I returned home, my kids were older than me, my parents were younger than me and my cat turned into a dog. I’m not sure if the effect resulted from the FTL travel, or New Jersey’s toxic chemicals.

Back in the 80's there was a parody of Cosmopolitan.

"Ralph Nader" wrote a bitter article about misleading matters in print (or some such... hard to remember all these years later) and then observed in shock that he didn't remember "writing this article" and asked in bewilderment what de heck was going on here...
