He was old, he would die a little while later, but he played that performance as if it was his only performance, and we were his only audience. He gave it his all. What a show! To see a Broadway and movie star on stage in front of you--phew.

Had to add this, just because. Let's continue:

Yes, in 1978 two friends and I went back-stage after the one-man play Diversions and Delights with Vincent Price as Oscar Wilde. We not only got his autograph - his wife Coral invited us into the dressing room and we spent about a half-hour in conversation as Price removed his makeup. They were a delightful couple, and even gave us coffee and pastries.

Have you ever flown in a hot air balloon?

Yes, in Princeton, N.J., a tethered balloon that went up a hundred feet or so. Never been in an untethered one, though.

Yes. I did the portion of the Appalachian trail from Maine to NY. All mountains and big hills on that route were climbed. (as I recall, New Hampshire was particularly hilly)

Yes. My college dorm roommate took off for class so we figured the coast was clear. Unfortunately, he forgot a textbook and returned five minutes later.

Way back in the '60s, shortly after I came out, I went on a drive with my bf in his convertible. We drove to a very secluded spot and started having sex in the front seat. All of a sudden there was a very bright light on us, and it turned out to be a cop car. Understand, we weren't just having sex, we were having GAY sex, which was illegal at the time. We quickly zipped up, and when the cop came over, we made up some excuse, like we had dropped something and were looking for it. (Right, in the dark.) The cop asked us lots of questions, but let us off with a warning.

Yes, when I was 4 or 5 years old, I remember it dimly.

Have you thrown up on a boat or a plane? (I remember these all too clearly since I've done both as an adult)

A boat, yes. Fishing in Seward Alaska. Combination of large rolling waves and a significant hangover. I was miserable all day.

Have you ever been on a plane that had to abort landing at the last minute?

Not aborted, exactly, but waved off and had to come around again. Perhaps more interestingly, I was once on a plane that had to turn back to JFK on its way to Heathrow, about half an hour out over the Atlantic, when flames were shooting out of one of the engines (and I saw them)!

TNP has been on a plane that had an in-flight emergency.

Yes, I've seen similar photos. They are amazing creatures. When I was on Maui, a gecko shared my hotel room with me.

Yes. Back when I was in high school, my friends and I would play a game of football on rainy days. We used the high school field, where grass had difficulty growing due to use by the school teams and gym classes, so things got pretty muddy in the rain. These "Mud Bowls," as we came to call them were great fun, but I don't think our parents liked them much.

Have you ever received an upgrade on an aircraft or hotel room, or when renting a car?

I recall being on a flight from London (LHR) to Toronto (YYZ) that had a screaming baby. Thing is, that Baby didn't scream when Dad was walking and carrying it. The minute Dad sat down, Baby screamed again, and wouldn't stop until Dad got up, carrying Baby, and started walking. Poor Dad; he pretty much walked from London to Toronto, up one aisle of the 747, and down the other, over and over, just to keep Baby quiet.

Have you ever toured a commissioned Navy ship (any Navy)?

No, but I did tour a decommissioned sub at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, back when it was still free admission.

No, but my neighbour grew pumpkins for years. It was fun to look over the fence and watch them grow over the summer.

Yes.100s maybe 1000s of peppers. My location is particularly well suited to pepper cultivating.

No, but I will ask a friend who does do that sort of preserving if she can make me a jar, out of the peppers that I grow. They're plenty hot, and so far, I only use them in chili.

Have you ever been inside a media office or studio (newspaper, TV station, radio station, or similar)?

I've been inside TV stations. As a kid, I was on TV a few times, playing violin, both as a soloist and part of ensembles. I was also on a local spelling bee. And since 1995, I've sung in our local Gay Men's Chorus on TV many times.

I've also been inside the offices of the New York Times. Was offered a job there, which I turned down.

Have you ever cut down a full-size tree?

Many, many times. The first house I bought was on a plot of unimproved land. I took down dozens of trees (mostly locusts), burned the small limbs and stacked the rest. When I finished the last tree I could fell safely, I hired a guy to take down the last few remaining.

We did, back when I was small. We had a dog, and she had a place to go during rain or bad weather, and I remember my childhood curiosity resulting in me crawling in once or twice, to see what it was like.

I got completely bumped one time. I was traveling with 3 kids who weren't bumped. Of course that wouldn't work one was in a carseat. Before it was all over we had a nice hotel accommodation and 2 meals for 4. Travelled the next morning.
I've had a delay of 2 hours once because of inclimate weather.

No, but I was on a flight that nearly ended up being an emergency situation.

I was a passenger on a commuter flight, a Beechcraft 1900D, into Calgary. It was a very windy day, with plenty of gusting, and turbulence was a challenge through the flight. Just as we touched down, and were rolling at speed, a gust of wind yawed the aircraft so it was at about 45 degrees to the runway. I've flown often enough in small aircraft to know when something goes wrong, and I could feel that this was definitely wrong, but the pilot got us back, and that was that.

On such flights, the co-pilot always stood at the bottom of the stairs as we disembarked. "That was close," I said to him quietly. "Yeah, you got that right," he quietly said back.

Yes, I was within ten feet of lava, at the spot on the Big Island of Hawaii where the lava pours into the ocean. It was very dangerous (and illegal) to be there, since I was standing on cooled lava that could have collapsed. I could feel the heat through my shoes. I was also in a helicopter hovering over a pool of lava. The pilot briefly turned the copter onto its side, so I could get a better look.

Have you ever continued to drive a car after getting a flat?
