Bigger deal than the presidential campaign?

I just read this article and immediately went to ActBlue to donate to the cause.
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/...ocrats-1481833

(The search within ActBlue is not good, at least on mobile, but I find the easiest way is to go to Google and just enter “democratic legislative campaign committee actblue”.)

Quote:
Democrats were caught napping in the 2010 election ahead of the last round of redistricting — and it cost them control of Congress for nearly a decade.
Now Republicans are warning the same thing could happen to them.

Senior Republicans concede they’re at risk of losing dozens of state-level elections that will determine who wields power over the post-2020 congressional map — and potentially which party controls the chamber for the following 10 years. While Republicans are establishing a massive national infrastructure devoted to reelecting President Donald Trump and winning congressional majorities, party officials say the state legislative races are being overlooked.

The DCCC.org site has a donation page through ActBlue that conveys more information.

The question you're asking is if state legislative races are a "bigger deal than the presidential campaign"?

I'd gladly cede control of 37 state legislatures for another 4 years with President Trump, and the SCOTUS nominations I expect would accompany a second term, if that tells which one I see as a bigger deal.

No no no, the DCCC is different! The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is for state legislatures. The DCCC is for congressional races. But the DCCC’s success throughout the 20s will depend a lot on the success of the DLCC in next year‘s elections in closely divided states, because of redistricting.

They're not independent things. Split ticket voting is becoming less common. So the best thing for the Dems to do is drive turnout as much as possible. If they're voting for the Dem presidential candidate, they're going to be voting for the Dem Rep, the Dem Senator, the Dem State Legislator, the Dem Comptroller, etc.

That’s true to an extent. But hundreds of thousands of people in Massachusetts last year voted for Elizabeth Warren’s Republican opponent but still supported Democrats in other races. It’s better than having them support Republicans all the way up and down the ballot.

And look at Florida. It has had many close statewide elections over the past couple decades, but the state legislature has remained stubbornly red.
