As a kid I watched Blues games from the rafters in the old Arena. (Seriously, I think the only person higher up was the organist.) This has been a long time coming.

Congrats Blues!

Hey, it's delayed here in the U.S., and they didn't censor it either! God I love the Stanley Cup!

They're not booing O'Reilly -- they're booing Bettman. It's tradition. I guarantee you there are St. Louis fans booing as well. I really, really wish they'd get someone other than Bettman to present the Cup and the Conn Smythe, it's a disgrace. Not so much the booing, but because he's a disgrace to the league and to hockey in general.

Yeah, they could have been booing Bettman, I guess.

Hhehehe, and O'rielly's joy goes out live on US TV, too.

Now that the St Louis sports scene is owned by the hockey team and not baseball, maybe that will be enough to force the Cardinals to drive John Mozeliak out of a job.

"I'm John Mozeliak, and I'm a genius."

Nope, not since LaRussa left you're not.

Now that's all 6 expansion teams.

And don't get me wrong -- while Bobby Orr is one of my favorite players of all time, I'd love to see a picture of him and Glenn Hall together right now. Hall's gotta be feeling pretty good right now. (Yes, I know he has a few Cups of his own)

I agree, for so many reasons. As far as acting as the face of the NHL, Bettman possesses a kind of smarmy anti-charisma -- you know, there are people who are great on the public stage that you just naturally like; Bettman you just naturally want to punch in the face. And his mismanagement of the league has included depriving major hockey-hungry Canadian markets like Hamilton and Quebec City of new Canadian teams while going nuts with US expansion, much of it in places that don't give a shit about hockey.

Bettman works for the owners, not the fans. The owners are completely satisfied with Bettman and what he's done with the league.
Your opinion is incorrect and ill- informed. As usual

Congrats Blues!
Was in high school when the team was formed. Never thought I'd be a retired senior citizen when they finally won the Cup. I remember The Arena fondly too. I hope Gus Kyle and Dan Kelly are somewhere enjoying this! Fireworks are going off around town. Congrats Blues!!

That's just it though -- the OWNERS. They don't seem to give a shit about the fans, or hell, even the players. It's all about money.

Three lockouts under one dude, including cancellation of an entire season? That shouldn't have happened. The guy's a joke. (Although he's not quite as bad as Goodell)

It depends how you want to count it. The Seals merged with the North Stars - both were failing financially -who later won as the Dallas Stars.

Heh - more PVR problems, and by the time I discovered it, there was four minutes left in the game. When I saw 4-0, I yelled out Ho-lee Shit!!! Not expecting that, like, at all.
What an amazing story, what the Blues accomplished since January. Gives hockey lovers a warm glow. (well, unless you're a Bruins fan right now, I spose.)
Ha - the screen filling up with Marchand sad-face ; wouldn't, for a second, have put it past him to sneak in chirps during hand-shake - one of the Blues looked back at him after they shook hands. Never seen that before.
Also enjoyed the f-bomb (heh, which rhymes with Klefbom!).

That's right, I forgot about the Seals. Well, the remaining teams, and the oldest team not to win one.

I imagine we'll be hearing more f-bombs on TV when they televise the parades, just like we did from Ovi and Jonathan Quick.

Of course he works for the owners. What the hell is your point? So did the 19th century robber barons work for all their like-minded self-interests. So do modern CEOs conspire with their boards of directors against their own employees and, most of all, against the interests of their customers.

The problem with supporting only the owners and profit above all else is that in the long term it's counterproductive to the whole enterprise. It's pissed off the fans and demeaned a sport that used to reflect a valued Canadian cultural tradition, and reduced it to crass commercialism. And it's prevented deserving and viable hockey markets in Canada from getting teams, because Bettman would rather go after the deserts of Arizona and Nevada instead of the frozen ponds of Quebec and Ontario where hockey was invented.

Did he? I was at a sports bar that was so noisy, you couldn't hear the TV broadcast at all.

That's why we couldn't hear the TV--because everybody in the sports bar was booing Bettman. From some patrons, profanity was also freely used in reference to Mr. Bettman.

Heh, and my Canucks and Flyers in a close 2nd and 3rd in that category.
Well, Buffalo's in there, too (who a year ago had a very disillusioned Ryan O'Reilly, questioning, at the time, if he should continue playing).

Losing to Chicago a few years ago was tolerable, because the Blackhawks were just better. But the Bruins are a more talented team than the Blues; they just didn't always put their best efforts out there for some reason. That rankles.

But the best team isn't necessarily the most talented - the Blues won, so they were the best team, and congratulations to them and to St. Louis fans.

Still basking in the glow this morning, a couple of things I noticed about the game last night that I forgot to mention amid all the celebrating:

Only one penalty in the entire game, that stupid delay of game on the Blues in the first period. I thought that was pretty remarkable.

Second game in a row where a puck hit the crossbar of the Bruins goal, hit Rask in the back, and did not go in. In game 6 I think it was just a lucky bounce. Last night it looked like Chara got his stick in behind Rask to keep the puck out.

And one more comment... rather than joining the "fuck Boston" chorus, I just want to say congrats to the Bruins for a fine series. As a friend of mine noted, if you graphed the teams' performance, the Blues were like a sine curve whereas the Bruins were a straight line through the upper half. You never knew which Blues team was going to show up, but the Bruins were consistent throughout. Good job.

Chara actually saved that goal TWICE. The puck falls off Rask's back and hits the ice about 6 inches from the goal line. Ciara got his stick down and kicked it forward, only to have Rask hit it as he fell, knocking it towards the goal again. Ciara's stick was still on the ice, tho, and he hit it again to keep it from crossing the goal line.

I'd also like to say congrats to the Bruins and commend them for a fine series. I thought the entire team conducted themselves well and honorably and they should be proud of the teamwork, determination and sheer talent they displayed.

I really liked how Charles Barkley phrased it yesterday and I hope I can emulate this better from now on: I don't root against anyone, but I do root for people/teams.

No, Charlie McAvoy sniped it out of the air. Otherwise, I think it probably would have gone in.

I'm always impressed by hockey reflexes. Stuff like that and these little redirects that alter the trajectory just enough to fool the goalie just amaze me.

Luckily that penalty had no impact on the outcome. It illustrates my annoyance with the general trend of OT blowing the whistle in the playoffs. Penalties like this can gave a disproportionate impact. You can get by with things that would be boarding in the regular season but lose a game over an errant clear.

What a night...What a game!!

I worked an 11 hour day because I had HUGE catering and I could not leave my pizzeria on what turned out to be the busiest night we ever had. I ended up getting to leave at the start of the second period...my son was waiting at the bar next door, Three floors of standing room only.

I have a great relationship with the bar and its management and saw they were PAST peak capacity...I jumped in and bar-backed/ glass washed the rest of the game (my son and I drinking free of course). There were plenty of TV's so I did get to see the game.

My Golly!!! What a Cinderella story! ROR truly deserved the Conn Smythe...Berube deserves the Adams cup and Binnington...WOW, Just Fucking WOW!! Calder winner?? We will see.

It's a Grateful Day for the BLUES

Just a reminder, Adams and Calder are voted on at the end of the regular season and will not reflect playoff performance. Barry Trotz has to be a candidate for the Islandersí turnaround.

Buddy puts down $400 at the beginning of January for the Blues top win the Cup for a $100,000 return.
When the Blues were up 3-2 someone offered him $75,000 for the ticket, but he refused.
I would've just taken the $75,000.

Nice. I absolutely would have taken the $75K as well. Turned out well for this guy, but the extra $25K wouldn't have been worth the stress to me. Even knowing the outcome now, I would not have a single regret for taking the $75K.
