Bummer.

Been a fan of hers since I was 12 or 13, I guess, whenever it was that she first started getting on the top-40 charts. My wife and I saw her perform once, at Wolf Trap maybe 15 years ago. With that voice of hers, she could have sung the phone book, and everyone would have gone away happy.

Another al-Baghdadi rumor, this one saying he's brain-dead after an air strike.

Even if it's true [insert more than the usual skepticism here, especially going through this already last year], brain-dead doesn't suffice for points. The rest of him has to be dead too.

Is Aretha still hanging in there? I ask not because she's on my list, but because I had my MP3's on shuffle while working this afternoon and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman came on at 2:20. I noted the time, just in case I was trapped in some sort of temporal mortal coil shuffling.

Etta James, perhaps? She died 6 years ago, which is 2 years in distracted adult time.

I'm surprised only three of us had her. She was a bandwagon pick a few years ago when ominous news about her health came out as the 12/31 deadline for that year was coming up, so I'm surprised there's not more carryover just from that. I've had her on and off my annual list since before that, just based on her appearance looking less and less healthy in recent years. And while of course points is points, RIP, Aretha.

Yeah, I was sure she'd be on almost every ones list. Then again, she stayed on mine more out of habit - and for fear that if I should take her off, she would have died spectacularly on January 1. purely out of spite.

Does your wording indicate Right Said Fred on next year's list?

Today's paper's "Happy Birthday" column listed today as his birthday. Does that mean it's only 14.9 points? Or do they expect him to have a happy day despite being dead? I guess we will never know.

That was a while back, AFAICT. Aretha was on 23 players' lists in 2012, but on a decreasing number of lists since.
