I will admit to the objectification. I won't accept that this is exclusive to men. Beauty ought to be objective, and with opinions and tastes across the gamut of gender.

I don't take any offense at this, but I disagree. One's attitude toward beauty can include objectification of the person considered beautiful, and often does, since we are as a species hard-wired to mate with partners who will help us produce viable offspring.

But it doesn't have to, and in fact there are plenty of people who don't objectify (I know a few, both male and female).

As Roald Dahl said, “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

Okay, carry on.

Considering the operative word "history", go back an look at Dinah Shore. Still looks good, by the standards of 60 years later.

On that same note, do you remember the group "The Mamas and the Papas"? Well included in that group was one woman who was a great singer but who was overweight and not so attractive and the groups leader was being pressured by executives to fire her and hire someone better looking.

He turned them down saying she was a part of the group and they all should be accepted. I'm glad he did.

Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive is quite a fetching young woman with a magnificent voice, her own sense of style, and an engaging stage presence. I saw them for the first time a couple of months ago, and while the band as a whole is extremely talented, I couldn't keep my eyes off Ms. Price.

Who are you considering the leader? Everything I've ever read claims that John Philips was the one opposed to including her in the band based on her appearance, but he was overruled by his wife Michelle, Denny Doherty (who had been in a previous band with Cass) and record company owner Lou Adler.

She glared at the area near the front of the stage for a little while longer, then signaled to the others to start playing again.

That's a great story! And exactly how I'd picture her to behave in a situation like that, tough as ever.

Yes! I'm surprised she didn't come up sooner.

How about Janelle Monae, Ruth Radelet from Chromatics, Kimbra Johnson, and PJ Harvey?

In 2010 Neko Case was playing with the New Pornographers when someone in the crowd threw a CD at Carl Newman. She immediately went nuclear on their ass. "I will go to jail—I don't give a shit. I will fuck you up. I will fight every single fucking person in this room. Seriously, don't pull that shit again." There's video.

I don't know if this is just a coincidence, but Neko Case, after Shirley Manson, is the second woman with such a story I had mentioned before in this thread for being beautiful. Maybe I don't solely have a thing for redheads, but for readheads who don't take bullshit .

(seriously, I hate it when things are thrown at the stage. Performers are vulnerable on stage anyway, they shouldn't have to be worried about being hit by a bottle from some crazy assed member of the audience. Unless it's the Sex Pistols, then you may spit back...)

I supposed her look is considered a bit "homely" to some, but I think the young Joni Mitchell was absolutely beautiful, and am surprised she hasn't been mentioned yet.

I find the young Joni very pretty, especially in the Isle of Wight 1970 film, with one caveat: her teeth are a bit too big.

Taylor Momsen of Pretty Reckless is at the top of my list right now. Saw her live a few years ago, she kept my old heart going a little quicker that night. In my younger days it was Ann Wilson of Heart, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.
