Television picture and sound-Sync or swim?

I've got Xfinity cable, but lately I've noticed that the sound and picture are not matching up very well on most channels. In fact, if the channel I am watching is available over the air I'll just switch over because I can immediately notice the improvement.
How do get your television(OTA, cable, satellite, computer or other), and how well does it sync up usually?

If audio is set to 5.1, try switching to stereo, check to see that sound+pic is in sync, then switch back to 5.1.

Not entirely sure this will help, but your TV should have "expert" audio settings that will allow you to advance or retard the audio. Mine has a "slider" control that does this.

I became aware of it when I first connected external speakers to the TV. There was a really annoying echo caused by the sound from the TV's speakers being out of synch with the sound from the external speakers.
