NaNoWriMo: Plague Edition.

NaNoWriMo, which usually commences November 1, is encouraging people to use their quarantine time to write. I had actually planned on doing so, but now I've signed up for the latest iteration. There's nobody local to me doing it that I can tell.

Is anyone else doing it?

As of tonight, I will have written about 125,000 words in March. It has slowed a bit with this Wuhan shit. Hard to concentrate.

Naw, don't be. Took me years and years to get to that sort of word count. And as a creature of habit, when I lost my day job due to the current shutdown and couldn't go to the gym, I have been thrown out of my habits and my productivity has gone down over the last week or so.

My focus since mid-January has been on Mr VOW and his recuperation from a heart attack.

I need to start writing again.

He is doing much better, and I have this NEED to start journaling again. There are so many family stories I want to preserve. I would so hate to get smacked in the face by this damnable virus, and end up saying to myself, "Gee, I wish I had written..."

Same, although it's not my stories I'm going to preserve. I am (perhaps was, at this point) a teacher in a boarding school and I want to document the stories and lives of the students I've been lucky enough to cross paths with.

Students like this:

I dont know if I'll write a collection of stories or turn it into a memoir, la Call the Midwife which I recently read and loved the style of.

I wish my dad had written more of his stories down before he passed away. He had a colorful life, but he hated to talk about himself.

I'm doing a different, but related, daily project. I've written a children's book and am now painting the art for it. I'm trying to work for around an hour each day, though I am still in the experimental stage as I have never done anything quite like this before so it's almost all new to me.

So far it's going well and I am encouraged.
