Hand washing = making a salad dressing. Never thought of it that way before.

If every place is closed, and people aren't going out, why do they need hand sanitizer? Do people use hand sanitizer in their homes instead of just washing their hands?

Surprisingly, a lot do. Can't take the time to do it right, but always have the time to do a half-assed job. Seems to be the motto of a lot of the population these days.

I always ALWAYS have hand sanitizer with me.
I've used it in the house.
Granted, I'm a bit phobic about germs.

Just curious, why would you use hand sanitizer in your own house?

I have it by my cat boxes.
I have by my chair where I use it after reading the newspaper or petting the dogs.
I have it by my bed to maybe keep from getting up to go in the washroom.
When I manually tested my blood sugar I always used sanitizer before I lanced my finger.
I keep a bottle in my Artroom in case I got ink or paint on my hands.
I have in my car. I have it in my garage.

I really, really like hand sanitizer.
The lil'wrekker always says I'm addicted to it.

I was just thinking there are at least 10 or 12 currently used bottles at my house.
I have a case of it in my linen closet.
YMMV, but I really believe in the stuff.

I'm a handwasher as well.

Even if hand washing is better, you don't always have access to water and soap. Or a bottle of vodka. Surely that's obvious. What if you have to perform emergency field surgery?

Re:bold If that's the case, then a lot of other terrible things have already happened making the covid19 threat seem like a picnic.

Not every place is closed. Transportation, delivery, etc. workers, not to mention grocery store and pharmacy cashiers, are still working and will be for the duration of this mess, and it's awfully difficult for those people to run to the bathroom to wash hands every few minutes. And they might also want to use sanitizer before they walk into their own homes to avoid infecting their loved ones.

Here in the hospital I will not let them near me w/o hand washing or sanitizer. Inside the door is a dispenser with foam hand cleaner. At the sink is some kinda of yellow soap in a dispenser. So far I've not had too much trouble with non-compliance. The nurses have started using the foam on the way out.

Postal workers also can't realistically wash hands between contacts.

Workers at the local post office have been wearing latex gloves for years.

Which doesn't actually do much to help with the current issue. They are not putting on fresh gloves for every new set of mail they handle. Instead of the virus possibly being on their hands it is on the gloves they have been wearing for hours.

I don't know if sanitizer would work - but my husband and son washed their hands after touching our own dog because they're allergic to dogs.

Personally, I find that hand sanitizer always leaves a slight residue on my hands. For a lot of purposes, it doesn't matter, but I really don't like using it before I eat, because I can taste it on any food I touch.

And I also find that wearing gloves serves to remind me not to touch my face, so in that sense, it might work to prevent spread of the disease.

“This video is private.”

WTF?

Are they afraid there are so many inside jokes I won’t find it amusing?

From what I gather, the original video had some sort of meat cleaver and chopped-off-hands content, and people complained. I'm guessing that it wasn't totally suitable for kids or the squeamish. So the original video was nixed, and now there's a blood-free version.

Have you seen the stuff dogs roll around in? Have you smelled it?

I didn't realize they'd actually removed the old video. I assumed it was just made private. I wish I would have saved it.

The difference is that, at the end, he says that the only way to be more sure is to chop off your hands and run them through the dishwasher. Or, at least, he shows us that, with some obviously fake hands and fake blood, and his comedicly sarcastic tone of voice. It was a bit of Good Eats style cheesiness and humor to cap off the video.
