The arena is at a metro stop.

My tickets are in the 400 level. I like it better than the lower level - better view of the whole ice versus great view of the section in front of you. 200 level is the best in my opinion.

Sounds perfect. I’ve sat up at the top for the Florida Panthers and it seemed like people were just there to get drunk and ignoring the play on the ice. It seems pointless to spend the money for a hockey game and then ignore Pavel Bure on the ice.

Is there anything special about the arena to warrant getting there early? Memorabilia or a Ring of Honor?

Not much. There are a few displays on the main floor - hats collected from hat tricks. They renovated this summer so i’m Not sure.

The American Art Museum is across the street. It is one of the few Smithsonian museums open until 7 pm. I frequently kill time there once i’ve parked.

Which games are you considering?

Just realized you have the dates listed.

The American Art Museum sounds perfect. I’m considering the Sunday, December 2 game with a face off at 3 pm. Perhaps a lunch or brunch someplace nearby, a quick trip to the museum, and then catch the game at 3.

Canada makes pot legal nationwide on Wed. the 17th. But NHL is the only major sport that does not punish for a positive pot test.

Caps arena is in Chinatown so if you like Chinese food there are many options.

Speaking of Canada, all six Canadian teams won their games last Saturday! YAAAAY!
(last time was in '89)
Pettersson out 7 - 10 days with concussion.

Does the NBA even test for it? And, thanks, Chinese food sounds perfect

Well, there are 7 Canadian teams. Winnipeg didn't play on Saturday.

Yeah, With the surprise Preseason success I had some hope they might have some chance, but they are a disaster, and getting worse game by game at this point.

It's in what little remains of DC's Chinatown, and while there are a few remaining good Chinese restaurants there, you will have no trouble finding nearly anything else you might be hungry for, from McDonald's to Legal Sea Foods to tapas to ramen and sushi to upscale fusion like Zaytinya.

NBA punishes players for pot smoking , 1st offense is mandatory rehab and the penalties go up for 2nd, 3rd, etc. offenses

Murray is back and he's BACK!

(Oh, and Bo, did you hear about the ovation Fleury got last week during warm-ups at the Pens game? He also did an interview with Dan Potash* during the intermission. It was awesome)

Ah yes, them sneaky Jets. I'll be surprised if they have a crummy season, but by the same token I don't expect them to replicate exactly what they did last season, despite them having the team to do so. Hellebuyck sure looked solid last night. Only rink (Winnipeg) where there's tv shots of smiling home fans, some of them even clapping, after an away goal is scored. Normally, there'd be a lone fan or two, all happy, with saturnine people sitting around them.

Recently Sid concurred that Connor is the best player in the NHL.
Still, I'd have Sid on my team, instead, any day.

Too bad, he's ours! (In all seriousness, I'm guessing he'll end up retiring a Penguin, just like Mario)

And possibly the final player to retire after playing on the same team for his whole career. (say, 15 year minimum, currently he's at number 14, I think) (Well, barring eventual - and likely - 15 season'ers Bergeron, Kurtenbach, Price, off the top of my head)

Sullivan reminds me too much of Dennis Quaid

As always, everyone appreciates when anyone associated with the Penguins manages to show some grace and decorum, whether on or off the ice.

I always think it's very cool when a player and team who've separated after a long and notable time together can be friendly about it: it's business, not personal & lots of times moving on favors both parties (this is one of those situations).

Oh, and we won again tonight, btw.

Caps got their first non-Wednesday win of the season. Nick Backstrom became the 87th with 600 assists.

Normally there’s a back to back when east coast teams do the Western Canada swing. Not so for the Washington Capitals. They played Vancouver on Monday, then Edmonton this Thursday and Calgary on Saturday. At least it’s not February so they can enjoy the downtime.

Leafs beat the Jets tonight in what could seriously be the Stanley Cup pairing.

The viewership in Canada would be unprecedented. Would any of you down south watch?

I watched part of tonight’s game, and I’m at work. I’d happily watch a Leafs/Jets cup final. I’d root for the Jets but both teams are fun to watch.

So, the Stars beat the Ducks last night 5-2. There were five unique goal scorers in the game, and they all scored their first goals of the season.

That's very cool, and not just because I used to like the Stars back in the '90s.

As the Knights game starts, I realized I hadn't given a shout-out to Guin for the amazing game the Pens had last night. The whole ddamned team was just on fire.

The Washington Capitals choked away 2 goal lead to the Flames this afternoon but managed to squeak out a shootout win. They have had an easy schedule for their Western Canada swing, so they needed those points.

Leafs come alive in the last half of the third period to defeat Winnipeg in back-to-back games.

Matthews missed the third period though after a somewhat innocuous hit to the left shoulder.

Nylander and his agent must be smiling.

On the road four game sweep! Now back home to take on the Islanders!

In serious news, the Pens have cancelled their annual Halloween theme night on Tuesday and will instead hold a donation drive for victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting. There will also be a moment of silence before the game. (Thank you, Vancouver, btw, we really did appreciate you doing the same!)

I am sure a moment of silence was held at the Jackets game on Saturday, but I am going to email my ticket rep right now and see if they will match the Pens drive tomorrow night.

I don't think we need new ones every month, but if anybody else does, then go for it.

Anyway it's good to see The Wings settling in. After starting with 7 losses(largely because they were missing 4 of top 6 D), they now have three wins in a row, and are hopefully heading toward a mediocre season, rather than an execrable one.

It has been a welcome change. Yeah, they're not going to do anything this year, but it shows some promise for the future. The young guys are starting to come together, and Larkin has been on a tear with 7 points in the last 3 games.

The city council already approved renovations needed to their arena, so this was one of the last big hurdles. Bettman said he'd like them to be playing their first games in 2020, although that might be pushing it given the arena renovations needed.

Of particular interest to you, Bo - the Knights would be the only team not subject to the expansion draft.

And of interest to me, I'd finally have a team that I could realistically see with a day trip!
