If there's an MPSIMS Idiot of the Day award, I may have a lock on it today. I've been rolling my eyes and scoffing for almost a week now about the tee shirt the USPS kept telling me couldn't be delivered. Today I walked to the PO (2.5 miles) with the "pick up your parcel" slip to get my tee shirt. The clerk came staggering back to the counter under a very large, rather heavy (21 lbs.) box. I'd forgotten about the InstaPot I'd bought on Black Friday my DD for Christmas. I couldn't trek 2.5 miles home with that box. I'm only 5'2 and couldn't SEE over the box when I held it.

No bus stop nearby. I had to call Uber.

I take back 48% of my scoffing at the USPS.

Well, nellie, at least you were First on Four (page, that is), beating spidey to it (he'll forgive you in a decade or so...)

Actually did get out of the house to pay the water bill and fill the gas tank (21.41 gallons for 512.5 miles or 23.9 mpg, pretty good for a Durango). Internettin' for the balance of the evening.

FCM, becoming rather fond of Texas Roadhouse myself, still go to Logan's Roadhouse for their meatloaf, though.

Spidey, I wonder if the sign meant grades 2-8 instead of ages? We start here at 4 years old, but don't try to play games until they're 5-6.

Sari, how in the hell does that kid plan to survive once you have slipped the mortal coil, or gotten you so fed up you kick him out?

flyboy, thinking about joining a gym myself, there are sooooo many nearby I wonder if there is anybody left not signed up with one of them....

OK, the Southwest Chief (Amtrak) is due at Laplata, Mo. shortly, need to switch over there. All y'all take care.

Sari- same. Make him talk to his advisor himself. I get it. I'm the queen of heliocopter Moms. But he needs to learn that as well as his lessons. Unless, of course there's a reason he cannot. If there is just ignore me.

I'm trying to find a food that checks off my boxes for restrictions. So far I have a meal replacement shake or Annies organic/carb free/gluten free spaghetti stars. In otherwords dog food.
I go to the nutrish-clinic tomorrow. I hope she can help me find foods. This is ridiculous.

Got to irk today to discover my security badge had not made the trip with me, had to get another, which involves a sup signature. Gotta remember to return the old one Moanday (will not be trekking out there tomorrow).

It's kennel cough season at Hades Annex. At least five other people besides me had bad coughs, and I heard unusual amounts of sneezing and sniffling. My throat and sinuses are not amused with me. Tomorrow features another DH medical appointment (my reason for not going to irk tomorrow) and Saturday is DH's company Christmas party, which he's really looking forward to.

Well, darn. I didn't want to take page 4 away from anyone. Sorry, Spidey!

Sari, I don't know the backstory. Does your son have some issues that keep him from contacting his advisor himself? If he has a disability that requires you to schedule for him, make sure his profs know. If not, you may not be getting a call back because there are legal issues, in which case the best you can do for your son is to help him plan out his schedule and leg him take it from there.

We are a remote and isolated base so Single sailors or unaccompanied sailors E5 and below live in barracks and we have a program to keep them entertained and out of trouble. This is Navy wide. Anyway, the gift bags are for a birthday program where on their BD they will find a gift bag in their rooms. Just snacks and small things. They also go on trips as a group and get discounts on base. In my office they receive 10% over and above the already deeply discounted tickets we sell. One required standard is there must be an activity planned for the actual holiday- Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year’s Day. We are currently without a program manager so others are picking up the slack. The whole point is that no sailor shall be alone during holiday season and it help them make friends.

I heard that our fairly new Director, HR lady and hotel GM were finally terminated yesterday. They have been suspended with pay since late May for various thievery and wrongdoing. Personally I feel they should be subject to criminal charges and may be yet. I hate a thief more than anything.

Spidey I went to the dealership and they took my car to check the tires and after about 10 minutes they brought it back and the light was off. The service writer told me they had many cars in today for the same thing. Since I had already had the air checked I think they had to manually turn the light off. The tires are not very old but could still have something in one. I hope they checked that. I was there long enough to browse some new cars and get accosted by a salesman.

Thank God tomorrow is Firday. Tis been a long week.

I have survived my multi-hour MRI. Hopefully, it will reveal something useful.

I'm looking forward to the end of the week...

After 10 minutes in an MRI. I'd confess to crimes I didn't commit. When will you get the results?

Well, they said my doctor would have the results in 2 days. However, she's going to take them and meet with a team of specialists and review them. I don't know exactly how long that will take.

Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffeinatin'. *YAWN* 'Tis 38 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 67 and mostly cloudy for the day. Where I am headed this mornin' it's 39 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 73 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall take off at seven forty-five this a. of m. and arrive around elevenish. I am lookin' forward to this round of CDI (Church Development Institute). Plus also, the food is always very good.

I shan't be postin' the rest of the day and tomorrow. Y'all behave. Well, at least don't get so rowdy that the cops show up.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I must purtify and don appropriate bein' about the public and in the presence of other Whiskypalians attire.

Happy Firday Y'all!

Happy Firday!

It's a cold 30, feels like 25, degrees outside. Supposed to get up to 52 and be cloudy all day.

I don't know what I am doing today, probably crashing from all the stress of the last couple of days.

Have a safe and nice trip Swampy.

I blame you FCM for my earworm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcw

MetalMouse - one of my biggest worries is what my son is going to do when I'm gone. I have visions of him sitting alone in this house, working an online job, ordering in pizza, and only going outside to mow the lawn. Fifty years after I am gone everything in the house will be exactly the same except for a thick layer of dust.

Beck and Nellie, my son is very shy, to the point of being almost crippled by it. The last time he had to talk to his advisor he almost threw up from nerves. So I took over for him. He has taken all online classes, but he did manage to participate in the two group projects, so that's a start.
He has to take one class at the college in the spring, so he's going to have to get over it.

Hope your doctor figures out what is going on Sunny.

Afternoon all.

I'm skiving class this afternoon. It's the first one I've actually missed, and I feel very naughty.

Basically, I need to head to Wales to visit a business as part of a module (we were allowed to pick our own, they didn't pick one a stupid distance away, I did), and I really am not up for a multiple hour drive starting after 5pm. There's a hyuge timetable gap today with one class end of the day, and I'd already done the major thing we had planned for the session so...

I don't actually have to be there til Sunday morning, but it was either a 5+ hour drive tomorrow, or go halfway today to stay at friends', then a relaxed Saturday where I could stop off at fun places on the way tomorrow.

Almost everyone else skives at least one class a week, and I've not seen some of 'em in months, so I shouldn't feel bad, but...

TGIF!

First order of business today was getting FCD's car to the shop for service. We'll be taking it to FL, and it's good to have it looked over just in case. Daughter just left for work and Roxy and SIL are still sleeping. SIL's work hours are 2PM-11PM or something like that. It's great for him since he's a night person, but he hardly gets to see Roxy. At least he's now got a steady job. Here's hoping it lasts.

I need to push a vacuum cleaner around today, and if the timing is right, I'll take Roxy to have lunch with her mom. It mostly depends on when she wakes up and when she naps. I'll be glad after I'm done working and she can get on a more or less regular schedule. Just 3 more early rises.

Her mini-tramp was delivered yesterday. I'm tempted to assemble it for her now - she doesn't understand Christmas and there's no way we're dragging it down to Ocala with us just so she can open it. She'll get a pre-Christmas on the 15th - my sister is having a party for the family since we'll be gone. Fortunately, this is the sister who lives near BWI, so it's just a 90-ish minute drive instead of 2+ hours.

And on that cheery note, Happy Firday!

At first I thought the V was a typo for P, but seeing it twice we here on this side of the pond can only assume it was intentional & that you attend class in your undies. No wonder you feel naughty.

Nut have fun!

It's very foggy here today. I'm having trouble seeing the neighbors' far fences. We're not talking acres, so it's pretty socked in.

In a few minutes, I'll head out to take 'Beamer to school. Other big plans on the docket are pet sitting for my parents, who are headed out of town. My daughter's birthday is tomorrow, so we'll have something informal to celebrate that. We're trying for a party with friends sometime after the New Year begins.

Happy Friday!

Sari- I'm crippled by alot of issues, shyness being one. I'm sorry he's dealing with this. It makes for a difficult life. He's going to school that is a big deal. I'm hoping he succeeds. Gently pushing him to do more will help.
It's a hard thing. Good-luck

Emergency weather report from Jawja: 'Tis 61F and partly NOS, with an expected low in the middle forties and a slight chance of overnight rain.

It's a nice day for a light sweater. It's a nice day for a cardiga-an!

Christmas feels like an afterthought at Chez Matata this year. I think it's because I'm not frantically juggling schedules to get kids to 100 rehearsals and four stage performances of holiday programs, and trying to sort out four different classroom parties and PTO noshes for teachers. Seriously, this year is just ONE elementary school musicale (requiring only a piece of felt and a headband for costuming,) and send a dozen muffins to a classroom party. Littlest Miss' teacher just asked for a $4 contribution for party supplies, plus permission to watch a Christmas movie. I'm very down with that approach!

As for my metal detecting supplies, I have my garden trowels and plenty of knee pads (I'd have forgotten those!) And a couple of machetes. Also have my big grass-cutting/hard-working/farting-around hat. (I'm a redhead, raised by grannies who worried about my complection, so gardening hats are my jam.)

Probably need to hit up my brother for some old BDU/ACU britches. He's a retired quartermaster, so it's likely he has some. My son stole my old BDU pants, but it's okay - those fit me 20 years ago. And I stole them from my college roommate, so... Circle of life or something. (College roomie used to jump out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose!);But fire ants are a serious thing around here, so pants that can be tied at the ankle are an important thing, to prevent critters from crawling up to... regions. No one wants to see me strip nekkid when those little bastards send up the "let's all bite" signal.

My biggest dilemma right now is to manage my arthritic big toe. Gotta learn to use my off foot to bear weight when I kneel down. That will be a learning curve.

Thanks for the "leaverit" terminology. That makes me think I should start my exploration on the west side of the woods. There's a 30-year-old highway on the east border, so probably a lot of debris that would be discouraging. But, when my old friend cleared our homesite, he made a short track into the woods, so I can start there and branch out.

To me, skiving is a technique for making leather thinner, using a tool called a skiving knife.

Guess it's a somewhere else-ism for skipping class?

Afternoon all. Stayed in bed late and got a slow start to the day, so just now checking in. Rained last night but it has moved on and should make it to 55F today. Have consumed the early meal (Fettuchini) and will probably have a snack later on.

Only thing on the schedule is helping set up the gym for indoor soccer (Futsal) this evening. Tomorrow I'll be busy with the soccer from 9am-5pm, but it's indoors and I can sit down when I want to, so there is that.

I have a large number of VHS tapes of...interesting...content that I don't want to dump so I'm spending some money and recycling them via GreenDisk.com. Will help clean out part of the house before the Great House Redo (part 2) in February.

Nut, at least one of us has some culture here, so I knew exactly what you were talking about... And I was the same way in college; hated to miss a class even when half of the class was delinquent most of the time.

Have a good and safe trip swampy.

Everyone else have a good Firday and remember the weekend is almost upon us.

Sarri, I'm so sorry your son is afflicted. I've known painfully shy people, but this sounds much worse and even more limiting. Thank heavens he's got a parent who's patient and understanding. Was he able to attend school, or did you have to homeschool him? What are his post-graduate plans? I'm wishing him the best.

I've been chuckling my way through this thread today.

OK, I'm going to have to mail this huge, heavy Insta Pot. (What was I thinking?) But the box says "Insta Pot" on it, and that'd spoil the surprise. I doubt I could find a bigger box, and the postage is already going to be insanely expensive. What if I opened both ends of the box, carefully sliced down one of the corners, turned it inside out, and taped the bejeebers out of it with mailing tape? Would that get it there safely?

Then I have to figure out how to get it TO a mailing facility. Nobody comes here to pick it up because I live on the second floor.

Well, I'm glad Metalmouse speaks English, even if the rest of you don't Didn't realise that bit of terminology had stayed this side of the pond... One can skive work or class incidentally, it's not limited to academia.

As it happens, the class I missed was on the importance of Botanical gardens, and skipping it will allow me to call in at the Botanical Gardens of Wales tomorrow, as I'll be driving right past there. Kinda satisfying.

SIL is off to work. Roxy is napping. Daughter is home. I took FCD to pick up his car, then ran to Food Lion. He went to get the car washed.

Supper will be sloppy joes.

Yep, an exciting day hereabouts.

Nellie another option might be to wrap it in brown paper (a cut up paper bag would work). I see that kind of thing mailed all the time. Do you have a cart or something you could use to wheel it over?

Been doing extra shifts and will be doing more; basically because I'm having fun again. But --- tomorrow is Santarchy so I am resting tonight and probably won't take anything for Sunday. Going by past experience (I have survived 13 out of 14 past Santarchys only missing one because the OW was seriously ill -- and I still had a plan in case she got better fast) I may need the whole day to recover and detox.

And then next week Doc Liz will draw blood, liver function will be off, and she will redraw two weeks later. My life is predictable like that.

Still not over my bug from earlier in the week. I have well over 24 hours before I have to be functional or be anywhere in particular, so I intend to spend a good chunk of that Nyquiled out. DH is making good progress in recovering, so hopefully we'll soon know when he'll be working again. The Princess is her usual bratty self.

Mrs. L.A. asked what's for dinner tonight. I said, 'Well, we have a bag of spinach, and the rest of that red bell pepper we need to use. I could make fish...' Her eyes lit up and she said, 'You mean with that sauce?' Yep. Unfortunately, we didn't have any tilapia in the freezer. I thought I'd bought some. I may have left it in the freezer at work. So I went and got some fish and some chardonnay.

Fish Florentine tonight.

That would be much easier, but I thought we weren't supposed to wrap parcels in brown paper any more. I remember being behind a woman in line at the PO maybe 10 years ago and the clerk telling her to remove the brown paper. I can't remember why. I think it had something to do with the paper screwing up the conveyor belts or something. Maybe it's different at UPS? I'll look into it.

The box is too big for my babushka cart. Maybe one of my friends can give me a lift. If not, Uber shouldn't be too bad, and if the weather's OK and the lupus allows, I could walk home.

I hope you get good news on the MRI, Sunny, and soon. I hate that waiting period.

Gotta make it up there for Santarchy one of these days. But I will punish my liver this weekend in solidarity.

God damn, I'm glad I looked up that recipe!

Also, I've had two glasses of wine.

butters, that sounds like a worthwhile program. Do they take private donations?

Irked, came home, walked the dog, went out again for groceries, picked up a patty melt from Steak - N- Shake for supper and am home for another exciting evening at CasaRoja.

Went in for my IV infusion. They swore up and down it was a mild antibiotic and wouldnt make me nauseous. They lied. I got anti-nausea meds from the last time. They're helping.
This whole thing would probably be moot, if they could find a food I can reliably eat. Meal replacement shakes are crappy.

Roxy lurves her trampoline - once we showed her how to use it. It was a major paiin to put together, and I had to have FCD help me finish it. Luckily, we almost never open the front door, so it can live in the "foyer" such as it is.

I won't make early Christmas gifts a practice, but this year, she's too young to know the difference.

Typical Saturday ahead - laundry, critter fountain, vacuuming, plus some Roxy time while daughter finishes a school assignment and SIL works.

Onward!!

Happy Saturday!

Wow! It's quiet in here this morning.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasting, a load of towels and sheets in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and fixing to do KP after breakfast. Trying to get al of the weekend's chores finished so that I can have fun the rest of the weekend.

Goalie Santa ---- you could pull it off. I will be logging out shortly to don my Don Cossack Santa suit but I'm already getting in the spirit. We went to our favorite diner for breakfast and I snitched one of his Rolling Rocks to have with me hash and eggs. This year is more bars possible than ever before but roughly 7 miles from beginning to end. I have my bus pass ready (nothing like a bus or subway full of intoxicated Christmas characters) and am hiding sensible shoes under my gaiters. Several co-irkers are planning to attend; I have tried to talk the one young lady into dressing as Ralphie but I don't know if she will.

For those reading this who are new to the concept of Santarchy be sure to read the official rules - especially the Four F's

Not enough for around here; even our mice have gone seriously urban/ghetto.

Awakened at a rude hour by those blasted Siamese cats wanting their breakfast.
Feeling much better today. No wretching tummy woes.
Ate and washed my hair.
Yorkie Grace is limping. She often has a knee that pops out. I felt around under all that blame hair. And looked at her toe nails. Nothing. She's not whining or otherwise acting like she's in pain. Wait and see.
It's Mr.Wrekkers birthday. Son-of-a-wrek is having a catfish fry this evening, for him. I'm gonna make chocolate pies. I think 3 will be enough. DIL has a cake, as well. Should be a fun time. He requested no presents. But, of course all three kids called me wanting to know what to get him.
The lil'wrekker got him a box of his cigars. She said she felt so naughty going in the Tobacco store and buying something. She got carded, which thorougly amused her.
House is clean. Animals are fed and napping.
Quiet. Love it.

Mrs. L.A. bought a 60" Vizio TV a couple/few years ago. It's had a problem for months. The image is 'cloudy'. That is, given a screen with a uniformly shaded background, such as text-on-background, the background that should be uniform as light and dark areas in a cloud-like pattern. I understand this is fixable, but what a pain! Since Mrs. L.A. hasn't said what she wants for Christmas, I suggested we get a new TV. I picked out a 65" Sony 4K UHD smart TV. We should have it by the 17th. I think I can afford $179/month for the next five months.

Of course that leaves the issue of the old TV. We don't have anywhere to put it. I could stick it in the canopy tent 'storage unit', I suppose.

Do you have a workshop or workout room? It might work well in there. Otherwise, maybe donate it?

Beck one of my little cats has started limping off and on. I'll catch her and check her paw and joints, and nothing. Other than irritated cat. She doesn't seem to be in pain, she just limps.

I just got a text message about a tornado-warned storm. It's east of here, but come on! California has enough stuff going on. Can't the tornadoes stay out?

My sister and kids are supposed to come over and help me with the house today. Last time they didn't arrive until 4, so I'm not holding my breath. I'll take it if it comes.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Johnny LA, maybe you posted a link before and I missed it, but I'd love that Fish Florentine recipe if it's not a romantic secret between you and the Mrs..

I'm going to try a long walk today now that the joints have unstiffened somewhat.

Trying to decide whether or not to put up the Christmas tree this weekend. If it turns out to be just me this Christmas--which has happened before, and I've come to appreciate it--do I want to go through the trouble?

Or I could wrap presents, though I haven't finished shopping yet. Do you wrap 'em as you buy 'em or do one big wrap session?

Daughter, Roxy, and I are going to Flat Iron Farm tonight. FCD isn't interested. Roxy should love all the lights and the critters. We'll all eat at Salsa's before.

Laundry is finally done - I kinda forgot about the last load in the dryer since I didn't set the alarm. The critter fountain was cleaned earlier. I haven't gotten out the vacuum cleaner, tho. Maybe tomorrow.

Fish Florentine recipe
INGREDIENTS
4 five-ounce thick pieces of skinless white firm fish fillet (such as grouper, bass or halibut)
1 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon salted butter
1 cup red bell pepper chopped
2 cloves garlic minced
9 ounces fresh baby spinach, from two bags
2 ounces 1/3 less fat cream cheese, I like Philadelphia
cup half & half cream
3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
kosher salt
fresh black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS
In a large skillet over medium heat add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 tablespoon of butter, red bell pepper and garlic and cook for about 4 minutes.

Add spinach season with a pinch of salt and pepper mix until the spinach wilts down.

Add cream cheese, half & half and parmesan cheese mix well until cream cheese is melted and resembles creamed spinach.

Heat a separate skillet on medium high heat, add remaining oil and butter.

Season fish on both sides with salt and pepper and place on the hot pan.

Cook 6 minutes on first side and flip fish over and cook other side an additional 5 minutes, until cooked through and browned.

Divide the spinach mixture on the bottom of each plate and top with piece of fish.
I put some of the spinach mixture on top of the fish too.
