"Stars on 45 Medley," from 1981. Cute gimmick, fun at first, then they played the hell out of it, and it kicked off a whole bunch of imitators, all of which did the same thing: snippets of pop songs set to a disco beat. Argh!

Cross country. I was only in it to stay in shape for track season. A long distance runner I was not. I was a jumper/sprinter. Thankfully the cross country couch was also the high jump coach so he took it easy on me.

SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). I went once. Turned out they might as well have been the school's Women's Temperance Union. I was interested in things like promoting the idea of designated drivers, and contacting cab companies to give discounted rides to high underaged kids who overindulged (it was the 80s, and they could probably do it without being accused of contributing to the delinquency of minors), while everyone else wanted to preach Jesus and abstinence only.

That would have been at an evangelical house-church where the "preacher" talked in tongues and attempted to heal afflictions. He didn't like it when I pointed out his "tongues" was bad fake Latin, and nobody was healed. I wasn't asked back.

Well E.T. was famously terrible. But it was so terrible that nobody played it for more than a few minutes. I would therefore submit pong. It was also terrible, but it was so revolutionary that we still played it for hours despite it sucking so much, so it inflicted so much more terribleness into our young lives.

Any long distance running. And it really irks me that we will be shown every step of the god damn boring-ass marathon but we are only shown the winning long jump/high jump/pole vault. If we're lucky we might see 1 or 2 other contenders fail their last attempt before the winning jump.

Figure skating and any other event that requires a judgement call. If a winner can't be determined by an objective measurement it doesn't belong in the Olympics. I don't care if it is 'pretty'.

Thanksgiving, because I remember it as being horribly boring when I was a kid, and on top of that, I hated both turkey, and pumpkin pie. These days, I really like Tofurky, but I can have that on practically any holiday (we always buy a case in November, so we have them for holidays year-round).

I was even more bored on Thanksgiving than I was on Christmas (as a Jewish kid), because at least on Christmas, there was stuff to watch on TV.

YLF particular holiday (one year's holiday-- it can be a holiday you like, just a disaster that year) you celebrated (or didn't, if that's why it was YLF).

My birthday from about year 7 to year 15. I'm a Labor Day baby, but it lands near my mother's birthday and about 8 counsin's birthdays. This meant the holiday was spent with the cousins over. Most were (are) male, with the females being to old to bother with me. It was burgers, hotdogs, a huge sheet cake and nobody for me to play or hang out with. And I dislike most cake. Yep, first world problems, but there it is.

Your least favorite holiday tradition and why.

My wife's family celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve, due to two Christmas morning crib deaths in the two generations before her. So we celebrate then, instead of Christmas morning, and I've never really liked it - I wanted to see my daughter's face on Christmas morning when she saw the tree with all the packages. Instead we had to sneak around, and put them on the porch on Christmas Eve evening. Still fun, but...

Our dear, departed, retarded cat, and no, I'm not making that up. She had some kind of syndrome, diagnosed by the vet. I loved her, but wow, she was a lot of work. Every time we rearranged furniture, or something, it took her months to learn where things were, and in the meantime, she got lost and cried a lot. She also overate, and was very fat (when none of the other cats were). But, she was very affectionate, and a good pet for the reasons people have pets these days. If she'd had to earn her keep back in the days when cats had to be mousers, she wouldn't have lasted a day.

Sorry, buddy.

The one for a local pet store where a man comes home to find his German Shepherd dog online, trying to order food and treats from the local pet store. The man cannot act, and the music is jarring. The dog is the best actor, but how the dog manages to order anything by mashing its paws on the keyboard is anybody's guess.

There are a lot of shows I've never seen, like the reboot of SWAT, which I think I would hate with the fire of 1,000 suns. Shemar Moore is hot as hell, but in the ads for the show, he comes off as an arrogant prick, like they took the very worst parts of his character on Criminal Minds, and put them under a magnifier. Anyway, there are several other shows like that, which I have deliberately avoided, so I won't pick them.

I'll say The Good Doctor. I've seen probably 4 episodes. I like a medical drama as much as anyone, but the plots on this one aren't very good, the supporting cast is flabby, and the main character is so implausible, I don't know where to begin. Now, let me first say, that there are, in fact, doctors with high functioning autism. My cousin the orthopod has worked with an anesthesiologist who has a diagnosis of "Asperger's," from before the DSM eliminated it, and it's still the term he prefers. She says he's a weird guy, but one of the best at his job that she's worked with.

However, it's the "Special Snowflake Genius" part I'm objecting to. It's not a realistic portrayal of autism. It's more like magic, and parents with autistic children have enough to deal with, without people asking if their children how "special powers," and yes that happens. I worked with autistic people for several years. It happens.

Plus, it's a mediocre show even without the autism.

Least Favorite 1950s monster movie. Can name anything from a Hammer Frankenstein installment to a giant bug movie, to outer space invaders. A "monster" is as widely defined as you want. Only requirement is that you have to see the monster. No unseen "forces."
