Another (somewhat less) notable golfer died today.

Five time PGATour winner, Phil Rodgers died today at age 80. No citation yet but I doubt if anyone picked him.

He won the 1962 Los Angeles Open. That tournament was Jack Nicklaus's professional debut. He later coached Jack Nicklaus in the short game.

The 2017 Rules stipulated:

Quote:
3. Valid picks CANNOT be:
a. already dead
b. already over 100
c. fictional
d. non-human
e. under age 18
f. a registered member of the SDMB
g. hostages held by terrorist organizations
h. famous solely as a result of their illness or the events surrounding their death
emphasis mine

I guess the 2018 rules changed.

The body of Roosevelt Rene was fund in the house of Janoris Jenkins, NY Giants player. Rene was a music producer, going by the name of Trypps Beatz and described himself as "a multi-talented" hip-hop producer and artist."

And here is a link for Joe Jackson, 89. Although I will note that no official announcement has been made at this time.

I will also make a supreme sacrifice and accept the points of anyone who does not want them.

I never had the guts to write or email Ellison about his City on the Edge of Forever Script. I can't remember the character's name, a WWI vet amputee who saves Kirk. He has a begging sign, "I fought at Verdun!". The battle of Verdun was in 1916, before the United States entered the war. He would have ripped my liver out and eaten it in front of me.

He might have been a member of the Lafayette Escadrille, which formed in 1916 and did participate in the Battle of Verdun. So he would have been right to rip out your live and eat it in front of you!

That really sucks.

When you're in your mid-60s, of course a bunch of the rock/pop musicians you listened to when you were a kid have passed on. Now it's starting to happen with the artists I first heard about after I graduated from college.

Frank Sinatra's first wife, Nancy Barbato, mother of Nancy Sinatra, just passed. She was 101.

Question for discussion: Does Nancy Barbato, Frank Sinatra's first wife, qualify as a celebrity?
