According to our league record book, the highest weekly score was 186 by me against Jules last season. That was also the largest blowout ever (117.84). However, the record book doesn't include the 2009 and 2010 seasons, so Hamlet is still the highest scorer. I vaguely recall Varlos having a 180-something week a few years back, and I think I had a 179 two or three years ago.

Also, Omni is only 1 point per game (138.5 versus 139.35) from being on pace to break Stringer's all-time season scoring average.

If I'd have started Cohen over Morris I'd have blown past it and won this week. Fucking Shanahan bites me in the ass with RB roulette. Haven't gotten that feeling in a while.

Since my season is fucked, I'm willing to trade productive players for younger players. I'm not desperate to do so, so it's not a fire sale, but Aaron Rodgers, TY Hilton, Isaiah Crowell, maybe Jordan Howard are up for grabs. Well, pretty much everyone on my roster besides JOSH GORDON is up for grabs, but I'm not as inclined to trade my youth.

So I’ve got two questionable receivers playing in the Monday night game and a lot of players on bye. Wonderful

I'm very interested in Howard.

A bit bizarre that Yahoo chose today to send out auto renewal notices for Yahoo fantasy football. This might be useful information in the summer as football approaches, but in the middle of the current season?

I think, based on my team composition, I could only trade Howard for another RB (or some combo) or a very high draft pick - since you'll have a playoff draft pick I don't think we can make that work.

I've only just realized how bad my team is and how little hope there is for the future.

Browns are trading Hyde to Jacksonville which is a huge old what the fuck from me.

They like the guy, he's done well, I'm totally baffled by this.

On the other hand, my concern was that Chubb would wait behind a competant hide for 2-3 years before he was the guy, so this is fantastic fantasy news for me.

This Hyde trade looks like it might totally fuck me.

My top 3 backs in total scoring this season:

11th: TJ Yeldon
13th: Christian McAffrey
15th: Carlos Hyde

In a league with 24 dedicated RB spots and another 12 RB flex spots, having the 11th, 13th and 15th scoring RBs isn't terrible. Not great, but not terrible.

But now it looks like Hyde is going to drop out of the top 30, and in doing so will also likely pull Yeldon down to the high teens at least. So after week 9 I'll be left with McAffrey and (assuming Fournette comes back) Bilal Powell. Ouch.

I suspect Fournette is going on IR, or the Jags would just have signed a scrub to fill in for a couple of weeks.

Interesting night for me as I’ve got Atlanta’s #2 and #3 receivers going up against Julio Jones. I expect it’ll a big night for at least one of them.

Never thought I’d have a chance to win this week with less than 10 points from a QB and getting negative points from two other positions.

I really want to do another dynasty starter draft with what I know now, but I don't know if I can load myself up with another fantasy league, so I probably won't.

Or, you know, this one can reset every 10 years. Yep, every 10 year run, we count the number of times a team has made the playoffs, declare them the winner, then redraft. That seems totally reasonable.

When was the peak of fantasy interest on the SDMB? I think we’re down to one baseball league, no hockey, basketball, or Premier Leagueand just a few NFL football leagues.

I assume it’s just been the fewer number of people on the SDMB and perhaps greater access to sports gambling and the daily fantasy games which exploded a few years ago.

I could handle another dynasty league if there was interest. I’m down to one money league, the dynasty league and HHM.

Peak was probably in 2008-2011 or so. It's been slowly declining with perhaps a sharper decline in the last two years, or maybe we were patching holes longer than that by having more people play more leagues. I don't think there's enough interest to actually start another league unless the league was significantly novel and different in some way, and then we'd just have the regulars sign up.

I kinda wonder if the strong economy has hurt fantasy? I know around that time frame, I played a ton of fantasy as cheap or very low cost entertainment and I was at home a lot more watching sports.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that work hadn’t blocked access to ESPN and Yahoo fantasy.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll put it off in this matchup. Still worry about Jones going off on me with a couple TDs

I think on the SDMB the problem is just that the population is declining - there's very little new blood coming in. And a lot of the hardcore fantasy players here have been in 3 or 4 leagues for a decade now and their interest just isn't as high after all this time, so they might drop a league or two, and with no new people to take over those spots we're just sort of withering away.

This is it. The Dope is stagnant and the folks that are here are aging up. Real life and kids and jobs that don't have name tags aren't conducive to obsessive time wasting.

I think a small part of it could be related to the decline of ESPN. I'm somewhat less informed on the non-local teams these days than I used to be and that's mostly because in my boredom I no longer read ESPN.com and watch Sportcenter by default. My background noise is either a podcast, politics or reddit, it used to be SportsCenter, ESPNNews and Page 2.

My interested waned quite a bit when I started playing DDO in early 2011, then took a severe nosedive in 2013 when the Giants started a 6+ year suck marathon. But now that I've given up DDO I find my interest has gone way back up this year, as evidenced by the fantasy rankings I post each week.

I didn't realize how bad my team was until recently!

Edit: In all seriousness, obviously I meant what I said before - I think it's way cooler to have a continuously running league for as long as we could hold it together. Who knows, we could celebrate our 20th year. I was just joking about the reset. I do yearn for a new dynasty draft sometimes, but I think having two very similar dynasty leagues would just kind of dilute the fun. There'd have to be something different and compelling about a potential new one to consider it.

The buzzsaw is back, baby! Back-to-back 180/155 scores might be some kind of record for this league. But here's an interesting stat. I beat Hamlet this week and I've outscored him by 50 points on the season. However:
Quote:
If they played Moridwon (Hamlet) every week, Nine Inch Neils would be 3-4 this season.
Meanwhile I've got a relatively easy four-game stretch coming up, except for a matchup against Jules' inexplicable 1-loss team that might decide the #1 seed. As things stand, I'd be playing dale in the first round, which I'm not thrilled about (though dale is only one game back and could even up our division records by beating me in Week 12).

For some reason, I no longer get notifications from this thread. I'm still subscribed, but they just don't in any more. So I have a few things to catch up on here.

My guess is that they traded for Hyde because he's a similar style of player, and in the event Fournette comes back and immediately gets hurt again, they don't have to change their game plan. I very much doubt Fournette goes on IR this late, especially since the Jaguars are still in the hunt.

Quote:

I have absolutely no chance against you in week 9 because I'll have five starters on bye, and a few of my bench options on bye as well. I don't think I have a shot at the #1 seed, which is a concern.

The interesting part of your comment is the "inexplicable" part. In a way, that's completely true. I don't think anyone in the history of the league has dealt with the injuries I have in a single season (Hamlet, of course, deals with an unfair amount seemingly every season). Certainly no one has ever had four people go on IR before the season started, right? Then another after the season started. And I doubt anyone has ever had six RBs hurt at a time as I have. I've lost 15 games from potential starters (not counting my TE2 who COULD start (another 7), and my QB2 (4) and RB4 (7). Six other times I've had a player start a game, in my lineup, and be knocked out for the game before halftime.

This has severely limited my scoring, but it's also forced me to carry players I don't want just to fill out my roster. I've missed some waiver claims I really wanted because of it. I've gotten pretty lucky to be competitive this season... sorta.

Because, on the other hand, is it inexplicable? Yahoo had me projected to have the highest remaining total points for the season every week since the season started, despite the injuries. I've had the best projected record almost every week. These are both true as of this moment, mind. My own projections, which are a blend of four different professional projections, had me with the strongest roster by a fair amount (at least until the injuries started the week before the season).

I built my team to be very, very deep. That construction has saved my season, whereas pretty much no other team in this league could have weathered it. So, yeah, it's inexplicable and lucky. It's also not.

I'm not saying you haven't done a good job or that you have a bad roster, just that you haven't scored many points. You're eighth in points per game but you're 6-1. Granted, the top eight teams are - relatively - closer together than in most years, but still. Ellis has outscored you by 0.01 on the season (!) but has two fewer wins. Everyone in the Midwest Division has outscored you, but all of them have a worse record.

For what it's worth, the current power rankings say you will score the most points over the remainder of the season, and the current projections say you'll finish with the best record. I'm also only favored by 13 points against you in Week 9, even though I don't have anyone important on a bye.

Looking at my own team, I currently have the #2 QB (going into a bye, but unlikely to drop more than one spot); the #2 and #3 wideouts (though Nuk has played one more game than everyone else), plus #23; the #5, #13 and #16 RBs; the #14 and #15 TEs (I still think Jordan Reed is going to break out at some point this year as he's #11 in targets); and the #1 and #2 defenses.

Projections over the remaining games for those players aren't nearly as strong as points to date, but then the original projections were obviously off too (the draft day projections had Beef finishing 11-3). To be fair, I started the season with one playable RB and wasn't going to have a second until Mark Ingram returned in Week 5.

In other news, Miami's defense's complete shitting of the bed (-8 points) means Ellis is now projected to beat dale this week, which could give me an extra game cushion in the division.

I got a ton of luck this week, so I’ll win. My goal was to make the playoffs this season and it’s looking within reach.

Congratulations to dale for getting our first 100% coaching grade for the week. I confirmed that it's not a rounding 100%; no 99.6% (or whatever.) A legitimate perfect 100%. Well done!

Did you know on draft day I was projected to finish the third seed? I didn't see my absolute falling off of the face of the Earth this season.

Welp my employer finally blocked the SDMB so you won't be hearing from me as much. But I won again. Still not excited about the prospect of playing Dale in the first round.

You did win, congratulations! You beat a team with 8 players on bye, 4 players on IR, and 2 more questionable starters who both were declared out. Hell of a win!

Well after being a 70% favorite through most of Sunday and I ended up losing by less than 2 points in a comeback victory. I also sat Allen Robinson who finally came through this week.

It's not a happy time for Jordan Howard, I purchased him at the exact wrong time. I had no idea his use would go down to nothing even in big victories.

Chubb is looking like he may be a top RB.

I forgot that fantasy football doesn't have to be painful. I really don't want to jinx myself, but I'm pretty happy that I only have one player on IR, which is a huge change for me. I'm 2nd in total points (and 3rd in points against), 5th in standings, and I have a real shot at making the playoffs. And I like the youth/depth of my roster.

I can't field a team this week. On bye or injured: Chubb, Crowell, Josh Gordon, Jordy Nelson, Chris Thompson, Terelle Pryor, Antonio Callaway. I can't fill my RB2 slot and my WR slot already has random scrubs I picked up.

Same here, and I'm your opponent. I had to sign two different scrub free agents this week just to be warm bodies.

Week 11 will be a rude awakening for New York Fanboys, as they have seven players on a bye, led by Jarvis Landry, Bilal Powell, and Carlos Hyde. Fear not, your Week 11 opponent -- Exploding Pancakes -- will also be tackling their worst bye week with nine players getting the week off.

I had something around an 86% projected win against Ellis at one point, until Ben decided to go from -2 to 23 in a quarter. I'm still in it, with about a 1 in 3 chance to hold up.

It's funny to see how many projected points are left still to be scored, since two powerhouse offenses are playing tomorrow.

Jules beating Great Old Ones and Hamlet winning will make for a tied record in the midwest division. It looks like it'll be a tight race for the wildcard too between whoever doesn't win the midwest and southwest divisions.

Looking at the league page, as of the start of this week, nobody in the Northeast Corridor had a losing record: 7-3, 5-5, 5-5, 5-5.

And every single team in the Midwest division has more total points than the highest scorer in the NE Corridor. And the NE Corridor have 4 out of the top 6 teams with the lowest points against totals.

Fantasy football is weird.

If the division is scoring less, then of course they're facing less scoring because of divisional games.

If you remove divisional games, at the start of this week the Northeast Corridor had the best record, but only by 1, and I believe that's changing this week.

I’m going to need a monster game from Todd Gurley tonight to squeeze out a win.

Has there ever been a tie in this league? I had one two years ago in my money league, but the scoring was ESPN standard PPR scoring, so that’s more likely to happen than with the scoring format in this league.

Starting next season I'd like to remove the penalty for missed extra points. That rule was put in place when they were automatic, but they aren't anymore.

EDIT: Actually, we have penalties for any missed kick up to 39 yards. Since a PAT is now a 32(?) yard FG, switch the PAT to the same as a missed 30-39 yarder. That would mean switch it from -2 to -1.

Seconded. The penalty for a missed PAT seems way out of whack when compared to how often it happens now.

IIRC we tried to make kickers slightly more interesting by boosting their scoring for successful kicks but adding penalties for missed ones. In retrospect, I'd rather have kickers score less overall so I'd be fine with reverting to default kicker scoring (or removing them entirely).
