At this point, the Ravens are better than the Steelers. Steelers should’ve won this, especially given the fact that this time, actually, the Steelers did get a couple major officiating gifts.

OK, it’s a new week. All Pittsburgh has to do is win one game at a time. Deep breath, play like you can, and this will all work out, Steelers.

If not, what a mess of a season. Actually, it’s a mess of a season no matter what.

Indianapolis stays alive in the playoff hunt with a 23-0 victory over Dallas.

Impressive Steelers win. But the Ravens still have the easier remaining schedule. They may go 2-0 while Pittsburgh loses to New Orleans and splits its last two 1-1.

No, though I'm sure Airman Doors, USAF would love to think that there's not much of importance beyond the Steelers.

The Steelers have been tied or had the lead in the second half of every single game this year, and yet find themselves at 8-5-1 needing a win over the sometimes dominant Saints, or need the Chargers to do us a solid and beat the Ravens. Ugh.

Will be watching the Saints tonight on MNF with interest. Their offense which seemed unstoppable most of the season, has looked at least mortal the last couple of weeks.

Well, we need to also beat Cincy and given how we play down to our opponents, that is never a given. Has N.O. now clinched such that they might be resting players?

No, not quite. Saints have 2 losses and the Rams have 3, and the Saints beat the Rams. So any Saints victory or Rams loss gives the #1 seed in the NFC to the Saints. Rams have the Cardinals and Niners left on their schedule, so they will be favored in both games. Saints undoubtedly would like to win this week so they can rest next week against the Panthers.

As much as I worry about the Steeler D this season, it’s the Saints’ d-line that I’m concerned about in this one. Cam Jordan is a beast, a few teams have resorted to trying to chip him and THEN double team and he is still getting in the backfield and wreaking havoc. Saints backups have been effective too. In Munchak I trust but this is a big test this week.

I’ve been really bad about updating this recently, mostly because I went from despondency two weeks ago to elation last week and I simply couldn’t find the words.

So now we’re down to it. The Chargers shit on their dicks yesterday and put the Rats in a really good position to win the division. That leaves some crazy scenarios for Pittsburgh to get in.

First, and most obvious, is that they can help themselves by beating the Saints. In the Superdome. Yeah. It could happen, though. The Steelers won’t be able to run but they will have the opportunity to run wild with the pass. It all falls on Ben not turning the ball over and making good decisions. This could be a pretty wild shootout.

If they lose, though, this is how it falls out:

Beat the Bengals

AND

Browns beat the Rats

OR

Colts lose today (they’re currently down 10 to the Giants) AND beat the Titans next week

None of that is unlikely, or even improbable, but needing help is not what I was hoping for and invariably something goes wrong and Pittsburgh gets Succoped.

So just beat the Saints and it’s all done but the shouting. The Bungles are the hottest of hot garbage right now and the lunatic Burfict just went out with a concussion so it shouldn’t be a problem. By the way, how could they tell that Burfict had a concussion? Is it like Billy Bob in Varsity Blues where they hold up some fingers and ask if he can see them? But I digress.

What a wild and crazy season. The ending is no different.

I don't think the Browns beating the rats is all that unlikely. They're confident and would love to finish the season on a win streak.

As much as I'd hate to help the Steelers make the playoffs, the alternative is the illegitimate entity winning the division, so I guess I'll be happy if we take care of that one for you.

The Clots are keeping the Giants in sight. Right now they’re trading touchdowns and Indy is down a field goal.

I just can’t trust the Giants no matter how well they’re playing.

I was right not to trust the Giants. Bunch of chokers.

So now it’s two wins and in or banking on the Browns next week if they lose to the Saints.

Win this, Pittsburgh!

Indy looks to have it won, 28-27.

Steelers have only one route remaining to the postseason now.

They have to win the division, but there are still two routes. If they win out they’re in. If they lose today they need the Stolen Browns to lose to the Current Browns. Not impossible. I’d put it at 50/50.

If the above doesn't happen, but the Steelers beat the Bungels AND Tennessee and Indianapolis TIE, we are a wild card team. Gooooo, nobody!

So it comes down to depending on the Cleveland Browns to help out. I hope all the good karma I’ve thrown out at the Browns this year pays off. If not, well, Pittsburgh had loads of opportunities this year and they squandered them. I want them to make the playoffs, of course, but if they don’t back in it’s completely deserved.

Fitchner has done a much better job planning games than I anticipated; Butler, unfortunately, has done much worse. No matter what happens next week it’s time for a new DC.

Oh god, if Roethlisberger retires, the rats are lead by a poor man's Michael Vick, and the Bengals hire Hue Jackson as HC......... oh god I'm almost there.

I loved watching Nix celebrating his short lived relevance with an amazing first down pose after a fake punt, only to find out that he didn't, in fact, get the first down. It's up there with the Bears' Lamar Houston tearing his ACL after celebrating a sack in a game that the Bears were losing by 25 points.

No. Not even a remote chance of that. They have a chance to end the season on a significant winning streak, the coaching staff is playing for their jobs, and who knows how the players themselves feel, but there's no less animosity towards the illegitimate entity than there is to Pittsburgh.

The Browns will save your season.

It’s a shame it’s come down to that, but seriously, I called 7-9 this year and it’s good to see them have a legitimate shot at 8. Hopefully next year they’ll remain competitive.

As for the “illegitimate entity”, I’d think you’d hate them more. I know I would, given the totality of the circumstances.

I do. That's why I won't even call them by their name. They don't deserve to be a franchise and their existence is a black mark on sports.

I hate the Steelers, but in a way where I respect your existence and your franchise. I hate the illegitimate entity was something that brings shame on the world for existing. I hope to be good enough again that the Browns vs Steelers is a rivalry. Whereas I hope the illegitimate entity ceases to be after all of the gonnorrhea'd up baltimore fans take some antibiotics and come to their senses.

As a former Sonics fan I place 100% of the blame at the hands of the petulant man-child Howard Schultz. He’s a loathsome floor-scraping creature that will die an agonizing, prolonged death involving an improbable amount of vomiting.

But I don’t think Seattle got hosed by the NBA as an organization quite as badly as the NFL hosed Cleveland.

I don't follow basketball much and I'm not familiar with it. If you want to hear why what Modell did to Cleveland is relatively unique in sports (as far as I'm aware), I rant here.

And so, this is it. There’s little chance Pittsburgh loses this game so it’s up to Cleveland to handle the Rats and confirm their resurrection with their first winning record in essentially forever. Baker Mayfield, as it turns out, isn’t a cancer or a joke. Over the last half of the season he’s been arguably the best quarterback in the league. The Browns are 6-1 in their last 7. They have a real shot at this, no matter what the pundits say.

So get it done, Cleveland. I’m rooting for you, both out of self-interest and so that you can once more be seen as real rivals to Pittsburgh and not just doormats.

As for the Steelers, if they don’t make it it’s entirely their fault, and bad on them for it. All that talent, wasted. It doesn’t help when the defensive coordinator speaks well of the threat created by a player that’s been on the IR for weeks and may never play again. It’s like he’s not even doing his job. That was quite a window into his preparation, let me tell you.

Anyway, I’m off to the game, my Christmas present to myself. Good luck, Cleveland, and fuck the damn Ratbirds.

The Browns, being the Browns, will tie the Ratbirds. This would be good enough for the Steelers to make it to the playoffs, but they will blow a fourth quarter lead because Boswell (pulled off IR list in a last-minute coaches’ decision) misses 3 FG attempts, the last one in the last 4 seconds off the game. Referees explain to Tomlin that, no, he cannot challenge that. Again. Bell tweets a picture of an upside-down Bentley.
This would properly reflect the season.

Doors, I will be in the stadium also. I will be wearing a Brown jersey and explaining to the defense that they must “get him” , thus setting myself apart.

Cleveland draws within one point of Baltimore with seconds to spare, goes for the two-point conversion, fails.

Ravens 20, Browns 19.

Ravens 25-16 Browns
Steelers 34-0 Bengals.

What happens if Indy and Tennessee tie? However unlikely that result, it's more likely this year than any previous year, at least for a long time.
