notfrommensa seems to be trawling obituaries this week.

Here's one that I learned recently. Judge Dredd artist Ron Smith has died. He was 94, and had long since retired, but through the 80s was a dedicated and distinctive artist for 2000AD comic, doing some of my favourite work, especially in the collections of short strips in the Daily Star newspaper.

Maybe notfrommensa actually IS the grim reaper. Just smart enough not to list his own picks this quickly, lest the ruse be uncovered.

I think commasense's moment in the lead needs to be commemorated with a scoreboard, before we have another death for points.

Since I'm not the DeathMistress, this is totally unofficial, but here we go:

Code:
Rank	Player Score	Picks(Unique)
1	commasense 3	1(1)
2	Everyone Else 0 0(0)

John Coughlin, a top pair's figure skater for the US, has killed himself at age 33. 67 points for no one to get.

If he died a year later, he could have had two perfect sixes for points.

They changed to a 10-point system years ago.

You know, there is a "Search This Thread" menu near the top of the page, which can be a quick way to answer your questions about who picked a points-maker (in this case, it looks like no one, which seems odd, since he announced his impending demise a couple months ago; I blame it on the fact that he spells his name wrong, at least for a Scotsman).

In "blindingly obvious and should have seen it coming in a 'Darwin Award' kinda way" news:

Gigi Wu, the Taiwanese 'bikini hiker,' has died at 36 from falling into a gorge while climbing.

Sounds like she fell and was injured or got stuck. Then froze to death.

I remember reading somewhere (no cite, so trust it as far as you feel comfortable doing so) that freezing to death is supposed to be a quite comfortable way to die.

That said, I'm more comfortable being Aron Ralston in that comparison. He only lost a hand.

The actual dying part is not so bad (or so I've also heard (falling asleep, they say)), but the being cold long enough to actually freeze to death bit in before that point is awful (I've been very cold (shivering to the point I couldn't write) and it sucks).

I once asked an ME the most painful and least painful ways to die. Most painful is being burned alive. Most people who die in fires die of smoke inhalation, which is less painful.

The least painful (and this is for information purposes only) is to get drunk and then freeze to death. Rip roaring, blotto drunk.

I would think overdosing on opiates would be an easier way to go. People are taking those drugs without any intent to die because they feel good. So taking enough extra to kill yourself shouldn't be any worse.

Missed this a couple of days ago. Kaye Ballard dead at 93. I had no idea she was still alive. The Mothers-in-Law was one of those shows that was on in reruns when I was a kid when we had just a couple of channels.
