Who has traveled the furthest from the place of their birth? Who has stayed the closest?

I think the title says it all. Take your birthpace, and take the farthest distance you have ever traveled from it, and post that distance. There's probably a bunch of different sites that can calculate the distance for you quickly. Here is one of them.

For example, I was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and have traveled to Hilo, Hawaii -- a distance of 7551 miles.

That should be easy to beat in both directions.

I was born in Alexandria, Virginia and the furthest from there I've been was Anchorage, Alaska, 3367 miles away.

EDIT: It looks like I've covered the least distance in the thread. For now anyways.

Born in Punjab India, I think the furthest has to be to Los Angeles. New Delhi to LA is 7978 miles. Add another 50 or 60 miles to go back to Punjab itself and I am just over 8000 miles.

Places at sea: Sydney, NSW, to somewhere in the Atlantic off the coast of Portugal - about 11,400 miles (and I was first in that general area when two years old)

I think I've seen something that will tell you what is exactly on the other side of the earth from a given point. Anyone know the website I'm thinking of?

Anyway, so far the farthest away from my birthplace (Kentucky) that I've been able to think of is Yangon, Myanmar (8695 mi/ 13944 km).

Chicago to Kata Tjuta National Park, Australia = about 9,900 miles.

Like most Americans I'm handicapped by being antipodal to a huge body of water. I might go to Perth some day, which would be just shy of 11,000 miles, and that will be it without taking a long slow boat ride to nowhere.

Furthest away from place of birth: 1,829.30 miles.

And as for closest, I currently live less than a mile from the hospital I was delivered in.

When I was born (nearly 50 years ago), my mom lived in the same house I'm living in now. I've been married for nearly 28 years, come the 30th of this month. I ventured away for many years, but I ended up right back here.

I've got cousins that are similar. They've been to Boston, 140 miles away, and Albany, much closer. My first time in Schenectady, NY at the age of six months took me further from my birthplace in Maryland that some of my cousins have ever been.

That number doesn't look right. One of the distances I checked for mine was Poughkeepsie (which is east of Pittsburgh) to Princeville (just north of Lihue), and it's less than 5,000 miles.

Born Ballarat, Australia - visited as far as Boston, US. Distance of 10565 miles, or 17002km.

Looks like maximising this number has a lot to do with having been to Australia at some point.

No one has pointed it out, but the circumference of the Earth is about 25,000 miles. Anyone approaching 12,500 miles is going to win.

Looks like jjimm at 18,890 Kms (11,737 miles) is going to be really hard to beat.

Any Brit who's been to New Zealand - which is not unlikely - will have a similar distance. For geographical/oceanic reasons quite easy for us to achieve. Looking at http://www.antipodr.com/ it's a bit more difficult for Americans to achieve - however I think a New Yorker who's been to Perth may be in the running.
