Salient points:

  • People only hear the Hum in areas with LORAN.
  • The spread of the Hum corresponds with the deployment of LORAN
  • LORAN works on the frequencies that ‘hum detectors’ pick up.

There are plenty more indicators. A Hum hearer went to a LORAN station and reported hearing it loud and clear, as well as a harmonic a bit lower than his usual hum.
