How is GJØA pronounced in Norwegian?

Therre’s a town in Canada, Gjoa Haven, named after Amundsen’s ship GJØA. In Canada I think the name of the town is pronounced “Joe”, but I was wondering how the name of the ship GJØA would be pronounced in Norwegian?

My guess is it’s something like GYUH (?)

Page on Roald Amundsen.

The G is silent in this case
J as J in “Jesus”
Ø as EA in “earn”
A as A in “after” (british pronounced a)

Slightly off the mark. It should be J as Y in “yellow” (Actually, the G is not silent. It’s the combination gj tbat counts).
