According to this site , my ip address is XXX.XXX.XXX.XX, but according to run>ipconfig my ip address is YYY.YYY.YYY.YYY.
I have dial up internet from inet2000, so my ip address should be constantly changing. The IP address listen in run>ipconfig (this is in windows XP btw) changes each time I long on to the internet, where as the ip address from whatismyip.com doesn;t change. I am able to ping both ip addresses.
So which is my real ip address
Try using tracert command… type in tracert whatismyip.com or tracert www.straightdope.com from a command prompt.

Not sure what you’re after, but to answer your question directly, your real IP address is what you see when you type “ipconfig”.
The IP address reported by the site is some router that your ISP has that is translating your address (this is called “Network Address Translation” or NAT)
