Help me understand this math problem!!!

How many different license plate members can be made using 2 letters followed by 4 digits if:
letters and digits may be repeated
Now I’ve worked the problem via an example in class and in my book and the answer I have gotten is 26^2 * 10^4. I am certain that 26^2 is correct for the letters part, but is the number part correct? If so, how come I use a base ten (I understand the 4 part) Thanks for your help

Yep, that’s the formula I’d use. You use the 26^2 because there are 26 possible letters, and 10^4 because there are 10 individual digits.

There are 26 options for the first letter and 26 for the second.
There are 10 options for each of the last four digits. The reason you use base 10 is because you are using 0-9.

Therefore, you have 2626101010*10, also written as 26^2 and 10^4. Does that make sense?
Wow…I’m never able to answer the math problems! I’m so proud of myself!

Yeah it does, thanks a lot
