Please Take Note: Red Cross, Tsunamis, Amazon

The casualties in SE Asia have topped 71,000 human lives lost to the tsunami & its aftermath.

Amazon dot com has a link to donate to the Red Cross, with their One Click system.

I gave $200.

Any other Dopers donate yet?

I just donated $100 to Doctors Without Borders.

Here is their website.

(I just clicked on the link and the website has a message that they are currently overwhelmed with traffic. I see that as a very good sign!)

My bank account only has $17.00 in it at the moment but when I get my paycheck I plan on donating something somewhere. Both of these organizations look worthwhile.

The bf and and I are kicking in $200 to the Red Cross.

Personal Experiences.

Yep, donated this morning.

$150 from me.

Thanks for the heads-up, that was so quick & easy! Didn’t even have to get up & go look for my doggone wallet.

The following list was forwarded to me this a.m. by some activist friends. So if someone has an issue with the Red Cross, there are lots of other opportunities:

$100 to International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. It was pretty much the first web site I could actually connect to and donate. Hope it’s a good sign that there’s a lot of traffic to the donation pages.

This is just so hard to get your mind around; the number are too staggering, and now I’m hearing there might be 2x the number dying from disease.

My bank account is zero right now (Christmas stole my money)- hopefully I can afford to donate after the first. I did however convince my company to donate thousands upon thousands of clothes, that were sitting in our backstock, to the cause. I figured every little bit helps, right? I hope so.

Doctors without Borders got $100 from me yesterday.

Seems so little for a tragedy so vast.

I gave $35 to the Canadian Red Cross and am planning to give a lot more when I get paid for the ludicrously huge translation I’m working on.

Since we do have a couple of Dopers ( False God in Sri Lanka and Xash in India)
maybe they know of local organizations that are reputable that can take paypal.

Brief hijack: does anyone know of a site that has a partial list (seeing as they still don’t have a final count) of as-yet unaccounted for victims? My cousin’s over there, and we haven’t had any word from her since a week before the tsunami.

Back to this regularly scheduled thread: I also plan to give to the relief fund. I’m not sure how much, but I’m definitely giving.

Wow, Amazon is showing over $2M collected so far, good job people.

Try the International Red Cross Family Links site.

$100 this morning, to the Red Cross International Response Fund.

The primary relief fund in India is the “Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund”.

My company, and all its employees, are contributing heavily to the relief efforts, in monetary and non-monetary ways. A lot of Indian companies are offering substantial contributions towards relief efforts, although in face of the magnitude of the tragedy, even large amounts seem small.

You know what’s cool? Go to that page (click here for it) and click refresh over and over (okay, it’s a slow day at work). It’s amazing to watch the number increase every couple seconds.

I donated $50 to the American Red Cross’ International Response Fund this morning. It’s not a good time for me financially, unfortunately. We’ll see how much I have left after all the bills are paid and hopefully I’ll be able to donate more.

I will admit, I’ve been a “clicker” today too. It looks like they have been averaging over $1000 per minute. I hope that pace keeps up for a few days.
