I watched this a few years back with my parents. It’s about a middle-aged school teacher in a remote, dry and poor Chinese village with big feet. She has some sort of thing going on with the movie man. She had a son but he died. For some reason she and her kids go to Beijing where they are amazed by the big city. She tells them to study hard so they can have a better life someday. They go back to the village. She dies. The last scene in the movie is the movie guy sitting by himself watching the flashing white projection after all the film has run off. The name of the movie that I remember is “beautiful big feet”. Searching for this name gives few tasteful results and fewer (read: no) helpful ones. A little help?
There was a film in 2002 called “Pretty Big Feet” that starred Ni Ping that sounds like what you’re describing.
