In a recollection brought back by the Amish school shooting, I remember watching a Dateline about an Amish girl who had been raped by her brother. In retribution for “telling lies” her mother had all her teeth pulled. The show then mentioned in passing that some ultra-strict Amish sects actually pull all the permanent teeth of their children to save on dental bills. This struck me as horrendous but they never really elaborated on the comment. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, why isn’t it considered child abuse? The only web reference I found about this practice sited the Dateline show.
