Alan Grayson introduces the "War is Making You Poor Act"

He’s the best.

I don’t think it will pass.

I don’t actually think it’s supposed to–I think he’s doing it to focus attention on how we might better spend those “emergency” funds. Not to mention focussing on how retarded it is that the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts are still considered to be “emergencies” at all after seven and nine years, respectively. If that money is required for those conflicts, it should be part of the budget, not tacked on in such an irritating, unaccountable-for manner. It’s like being on a strict budget but “borrowing” a little here, a little there in order to get around the budgeting–it’s bad math, bad policy, and bad for the country to keep doing this. The fact that we could all have 35K in income excused from fed taxes for the same amount of money kinda says something, doesn’t it? Couldn’t we all use a break on taxes? You know, us regular folk, not just the rich fuckers who usually get tax cuts. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be off the hook for my fed taxes rather than blowing up more brown people and getting a bunch of my fellow citizens killed and maimed but I’m weird like that.
