80 minutes is short for a feature, agreed, but only by around 5 minutes. 85 minutes including credits isn't unusual.

Just because there are some which are under 90 minutes, they are by far untypical of anything of feature length.

If it's a feature, and its less than 1:30, then fair enough.

If it's NOT a feature, but pretending to be like one, because of the length, when its not actually what is typically and normally feature length, then it's not feature length...

They aren't feature length, was the point. None of them were. Some seemed to trick me because there was a 15 minute making on stuck on the end, to seem like it was, but it was all in the end not a feature length, but an extended episode for 4 of the 6 episodes.

In the end, it is pretty representative of Game Of Thrones: promises something, which turns out to be a load of bollocks....

That's fair enough, but again, you can't discount the previously on, title sequence, and ending credits for the show length but then count the opening titles / credits and closing credits for a feature film, which typically total around 10 minutes.

A typical 90-minute feature only has 80 minutes of actual movie, so when you say "1:16 in actual content (removing previously on titles)" you're comparing apples to oranges. In reality an episode with 76 minutes of content is only 4 minutes shorter than the typical content of a 90-minute feature. Criticizing this 4-minute shortfall feels like looking for something to complain about.

And during this entire exchange of ours, I keep hearing Maeby Fünke reading a negative review of her movie that includes "it's too long" and her saying out loud "It was 72 minutes, including credits!"

Huh? He's clearly DJing.

Alright, I normally wouldn't engage in the meme posting game, but this one got me. What a great scene that was, and what a contrast it shows between then and now.

Just watched HBO's excellent miniseries Chernobyl. Three GOT alums make appearances:

Donald Sumpter (Maester Luwin/a Communist Party ideologist)

James Cosmo (Jeor Mormont/a Soviet miner; blink and you'll miss him!)

Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton/a Soviet prosecutor)

The Terror is finally on Prime. Its protagonist and antagonist are in Chernobyl, but more relevant it has Edmure Tully and Mance Rayder.

I've recently been watching the miniseries Rebellion about the Irish Easter Rising in 1916, which features Barriston Selmy married to Catelyn Stark.

I guess the Emmy people are not among the tantrum throwers who demanded season 8 be redone.

It's not just people who throw tantrums that recognize that it was pretty bad.

Are the Emmy nomination voters dumb, or do they just vote for bad stuff for the hell of it? Maybe they voted for GOT just to see people's heads explode all over again like they did during season 8?

Kind of like Return of the King, the last but IMHO second-best LOTR movie, getting the most Oscar nominations - and wins for both Best Picture and Best Director.

Oh you see, for most people the problem with Season 8 was the writing. And pretty much just the writing. The bad writing doesn't make the, I don't know, hairstyling any worse.
I will be, for instance, outraged if Ramin Djawadi doesn't win for best musical score.

I think the voters tend to be a bit lazy, and love the path of least resistance. If you'd nominated a particular person before, it's easier to just keep nominating him or her. A good example is Lena Headey. Headey is a great actor, both over the course of Game of Thrones and just in general. But in Season 8 her entire season was spent smirking on a balcony. She got exactly one and a half good scenes (her death and her reaction to Cleganebowl), which is just not Emmy-worthy. But it's an easy nomination, because it's Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister!

GOT was nominated for best drama show. I think the writing plays a big role in the overall show quality doesn't it?

This. The actors and everyone besides the writers did an amazing job. Actually the writers of episodes 1 and 2 were fantastic, not fair to lump them in with the rest. And frankly most of the things that made season 8 suck were the result of bad writing from previous seasons.

I'm sure that's a major factor. The show and its actors and crew are being recognized for a body of work, not a single season.

Absolutely- So those are the nominations that will be highly debated, the writing and the best overall drama, not all the other nominations.

the show creators skipped the big San Diego Comic Con , they were supposed to appear. I suppose they made a smart choice rather than subject themselves to the tantrum throwers.

I'm on an 'official' GRRM mail list which seems to do nothing but churn out offers of expensive "collector's editions" of the existing books and all sorts of, well, "ornamental" crap.

Each time I get a mailing I find myself grinding my teeth. Really? You used to be a writer, now you're a company bent on commercializing your creation in every possible way?

Well, except for actually WRITING more of it, that is.

Apparently the long watch prequel with Naomi Watts got canceled. They were as far along as having a pilot, it must have been dire.

Claims are the pilot was thrown back, reworked and still rejected.

The 300 years old Targ origins was now the main focus out of the set of prequels, which sounds like Dance with Dragons V1.

But all in all, I've lost the will to live on finding out detailed history about an unfinished set of books.

That was the least interesting of the plots they could have chosen. Dance of dragons, Roberts rebellion, Blackfyre rebellion, the original conquest, those are all interesting.

Well you should be happy then, because it seems like it's about the original conquest.

A prequel series based on the “Game of Thrones” companion book “Fire & Blood” has been ordered straight-to-series at the premium cabler. The series will be titled “House of the Dragon.” Set 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” the series tells the story of House Targaryen. Frequent “Game of Thrones” director Miguel Sapochnik will direct the pilot and additional episodes.
Book and Season 1 begin in 298 AC.

The War for Aegon's Conquest is from from 2 BC to 1 AC.

https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.ph...n%27s_Conquest

Where 2 BC is when Aegon's Landing occurred (landing on the mouth Blackwater Rush - which would eventually become the city of King's Landing). I'm sure they'll fill in some backstory how they got the Dragonstone before conquest, how Argillac Durrandon the Storm King pissed off Aegon, etc.
