Praises of a Mud Room/ air lock

Why step right outside ? How about little room block the wind or extreme weather.
an air lock , great place to leave some wet gear.
then you don’t have to seal the doors so well.
we even load our wood stove from the airlock.
Keeps the bugs and bark, etc. from coming inside. removing ashes also cleaner.

Haven’t heard them referred to as an “airlock” before, and the ones I’ve seen here on Earth are not hermetically sealed anyway, but I think the idea of having a mud room is fantastic. Also keeps your heating/cooling bills down during winter and summer.

It’s an old idea.

The converted crofter’s cottage I stayed at in Scotland a while back had one of these - a place to change muddy boots, a place to transfer coal from the sack into the scuttle, to hand dripping wet coats, etc. It’s a great idea, especially in climates where the weather outside can be horrible.
