My Huskers are getting no love, from the polls above and the other polls (the only unbeaten Big Ten team and we’re just #17)?
On one hand, we’re off to a very good start, being 4-0 including a win over Miami. Abdullah is getting over 200 yards the past few games. Our defense seems to be hitting its stride, once we give up our traditional first TD of the game.
That said, I’m sadly not picking my Huskers to win. I still think Bo Pelini’s not at that level on road game vs ranked opponents. So I will be cautiously optimistic about Michigan State and (later) Wisconsin until proven differently.
We’ve had 6 straight 4-loss seasons under Pelini, so I want to think “This is the year”. BUT “Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
Going to be a long day of huge games back to back to back. I’ll be watching Miss State/TAM, Ole Miss/Alabama, and Auburn/LSU. The other games will be loosely followed, probably just whenever they flash the scores on screen. I’ll make picks a little later in the week, still pondering.
So true! So much at stake and such challenges for the whole conference, not just those in the Top 25. I read somewhere yesterday or the day before that this particular cluster of top level games the same week hasn’t happened often if at all. And I like what I heard recently that the SEC West is the ninth division of the NFL. If the games this week hold up to the hype I suspect they’ll be available for replay on the SEC Network and other places. So even if you can’t see all of them live, they’ll still be around for a while.
It’s a shame that so many SEC teams are having to cannibalize each other!
It’s a double-edged sword. Strength of schedule for the SEC West has to be off the charts by the time we’re done, but there’s a very good chance that the SEC West champion will go to Atlanta with at least one loss. Maybe even two losses. The new playoff format might still allow a two loss SEC team into the party where it would have been unlikely to put that team in the BCS Title game under the old system.
If anybody does manage to go undefeated in the SEC West, win the SEC Title, and then win the National Championship this year…it might just be the best team in the history of college football. ROLL TIDE! HAIL STATE! and to a lesser extent, HODDY TODDY!, GEAUX TIGERS!, SUEY PIG!, (insert TAM cheer here, I don’t know it), and even a begrudging WAR DAMN EAGLE!.
Good grief, Oak, aren’t you old enough to know not to post when you’re blind drunk? Don’t worry, it’ll just be between us, we won’t tell anybody you said that.
It’s okay, folks. He’s fine. Nothing to see here, move along. No need to embarrass him further…
Okay, I’ve jazzed up the display to show the situations where neither team in a head-to-head matchup was selected. This is to make it a little easier for Zakalwe and me to keep up with the scoring for the poll.
If anybody affected by the “()” markings wants to add votes for those games, please do so before Thursday. After that, I won’t be able to help. Either post your picks or PM me with them – before Thursday!
Here’s an update and a reminder that the poll closes tomorrow afternoon. Note the slider below the layout; to make it all legible would make it harder to see.
Makes you wonder how the others not picked to lose will turn out this weekend:

Good thing we didn’t decide to penalize for not picking random losers.
But there will be plenty of excitement and drama in the picks that were made.
