This is a purported train order from 1905 referencing “Indians reported on the warpath on right of way between Ardmore and Rumford.” Ardmore and Rumford are in the southwest corner of South Dakota, and Orella is nearby in northwest Nebraska. http://cdn.amtraktrains.com/uploads/monthly_06_2015/post-252-0-97030300-1434754001.jpg
Was there really an uprising as late as October 1905, or a real but exaggerated incident? And yes, I realize it could be a real train order based on a false report (e.g. train order office in Ardmore wanted to slack off) or completely fake.
You could kind of say the last Indian uprising was in 1973 .

Or, perhaps, that that was the most recent one.
According to the book of knowledge , the American Indian Wars lasted from 1622 to 1924. With regard to the last incidents, it says:
January 9, 1918, Bear Valley, Arizona: The Battle of Bear Valley was fought in Southern Arizona. United States Army forces of the 10th Cavalry engaged and captured a band of Yaquis, after a brief firefight.[50]
March 20–23, 1923, Posey War in Utah between Ute and Paiute natives against Mormon settlers.
Some time in 1924, both the Renegade Period and the Apache Wars ended, which had begun decades earlier, and brought the American Indian Wars to a close.
