I've been hearing advertisments with increasing frequency for the "Wellness Program." The ad (radio) is one of those that goes like this:

"I was working at a big company making six figures, but I felt empty inside. Then I discovered "Wellness." Now I am more fulfilled and making more money than before. We're looking for entreprenureal people to talk to about Wellness (and so on)..."

What the heck is this?

It could be Wellness International Network, Ltd. (aka WIN), which from the website looks like an Amway type organization.

We have a “Wellness Program” where I work. They send me a brochure (via our internal mailing system) about twice a month. From what I can tell, it’s a trendy/new age program to help you become “spiritually, mentally, and physically healthy.” Perhaps it’s a good program; I dunno. I really have no interest in that kind of stuff. Shooting a bolt action .308 Win on a Sunday afternoon is the best therapy I can think of.

The common definition of 'wellness' translates pretty much into "Preventive Medicine". In other words, by staying healthy and fit, you reduce the need to be treated for "Sickness" in the first place.

And there'd be lots of truth in that if it weren't typically applied to New Age and Homeopathic quackery.

"Wellness" is sort of like traditional medicine, except that in traditional medicine you pay a doctor when you are sick, whereas in "wellness" you pay some bearded weasel in a cardigan when you are well.

Sounds like Chinese medicine. Do they stick pins into you, or burn you with match heads?
