My vote goes for the Original Planet of The Apes on that one. Jesus, that’s some unnerving music. Try waking up to that one morning.
Any out there that can top it?

Well, I do think that The Omen has a pretty good score, at least when combined with the imagery. And though it’s not exactly a high-brow flick, the score to the original Halloween movie had its moments.
“Psycho” Herrmann’s shirking violins gives me the willies.
The Digimon Movie, The Pokemon movie, and that Spice World one.
Lalo Schifrin’s music to THE AMITYVILLE HORROR with that ghostly child choir singing LA LA LA LA LA is pretty creepy. I believe this score was originally going to be used for THE EXORCIST, but was turned down.
The themes from Jaws and Halloween freak me out everytime I hear them. Probably because those movies scared the crap out of me when I saw them as a child.
Tubular Bells is rather creepy, but I like it.
The music from Jaws is pretty scary too.
I’d have to vote for the score from Halloween. I have the score for it (though I don’t know where I got it), and even hearing it alone gives me the heebie jeebies.
Hands down Bram Stokers Dracula. My friend bought the soundtrack when it first came out and I wouldn’t even ride in the car with him. Of course, I think it’s really cool now but for some reason it scared the shit out of me back then.
Not a movie, but the scariest soundtrack I’ve ever heard was The Best of The Twilight Zone, Vol. 1, which had both Bernard Herrmann and Jerry Goldsmith. Any track is guaranteed to completely freak you out if you’re alone, in the dark, or especially both.
I’d have to say Oldfield’s score from The Killing Fields. Somehow, it seems to express the insanity and random horror of the whole thing.
The “wowu wowu wowu wowu WEET WEET WEET WEET” music from The Shining. YIKES!
Also, even though I know it wasn’t written specifically for the movie, the score from Eyes Wide Shut was terrifying!
When I was a kid my friends and I used to scare each other half to death walking home in the dark singing “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte” Kept my hands away from hatchets for a long time too!
John Williams, Jaws, hands down.
Suspiria by Dario Argento and Goblin. Some very spooky horror slasher stuff here. ::shiver::
I always thought of the Jaws score as good suspense music, rather than scary music.
Gotta go with Herrmann’s score for Psycho, mostly becuase it influenced a lot of soundtracks up to the present day. And while the shower scene music is famous, let’s not forget the music underlying Martin Balsam buying it on the stairs and the music underlying the discovery of “Mother” in the root cellar.
That score is just designed to provide heebie-jeebies.
Tubular Bells, without a doubt. That still scares the shit out of me, even if I’m driving in broad daylight and it comes on the radio.
“Singing In The Rain” from A Clockwork Orange
Since they had that in the methodical murder scene, I haven’t been able to hear it and not shiver. And it’s been how many years?
