How serious is this messageboard?

It has a mixture of very serious and very silly, and every shade in between. Here you can find threads discussing finer points of advances mathematics, and other threads consisting of nothing but silly puns. What's more, they are not mutually exclusive.

Welcome to the board. Have fun.

You may have posted this in the wrong forum, so it might mean 5 to 7 unicorn heart demerits on your record.

"Welcome" threads usually go in our MPSIMS forum, so I'll move this there.

and for a serious note: Luci--you just found the best site on the internet. Welcome aboard!

And your very first post (about intersectionality) is right on target for us. Good conversations happen here.

( Oh...and do please remember that if you post anything about kittens, you'd better have some pics. )

I'd never heard of intersectionality, so I read that entire thread... I may have to break down and google it.

But here's another vote for best site!

I can't remember how many Lucianos we lost to those 1920's-style death rays, and at least one ended up in the Marianas Trench, in 1960, for twenty minutes.

Still, maybe this one will be the lucky Luciano.

Luciano472 tried to start a thread, but it was on a treadmill and never got off the ground.

Welcome to the boards, Luciano700. Now, just lie down on the table. Don't worry about the straps; they are more for the safety of the squid.

Now, just relax...

Regards,
Shodan

This board is so serious that it does not allow pictures to be imbedded in posts, and upvotes will never happen.

But it is also not so serious that people will giggle when I say this: poop poop poop booger booger fart!

Those who have been members since the early days of the board will of course remember Luciano8 and his tragic Tug-Ahoy accident. The police said they'd never seen anyone suffocated by their own foreskin before. And we all learned a valuable lesson about checking the correct voltage before plugging in new appliances.

I went to electronics school with Luciano104. Guy was brilliant, and always so helpful. He was always in the top 5% of the class, had no problems with transmission-line theory or Smith charts, and during that ugly incident involving Laplace transforms, he was a rock of support. He got hired by IBM right out of school, and got in on the ground floor of IBM's turn toward the good in the nineties. Later he went to work at NASA, and then at one of the private cubesat programs. What happened afterwards -- the unauthorized access, the re-entry, the lawsuits and impact toxins -- it was such a tragedy.

Luciano used to be an umpire in the American League. He was always getting into arguments with Orioles manager Earl Weaver. One time he was hit in the head with a wild pitch. He staggered around for a minute, then collapsed on the ground. The crowd bore witness to the fall of the roamin' umpire.

He made a generally acceptable pie, even if it wasn't perfect to to more than a couple decimals

You're thinking of Luciano3.14 of course. A well rounded poster if ever there was one. I don't know why everyone is assuming that only the integer versions of Luciano count. Now, Luciano2.718... was truly excellent. A transcendental soul, he was a real natural. And he had rithm!!
