Tillerson fired

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been fired.

Will be replaced by Pompeo.

This staff turnover is crazy!

Is there a chart somewhere showing the parade of Top Men into and out of the current administration's cabinet? I can't keep up.

So, Pompeo's deputy is nominated to run the CIA, which probably leaves the Tea Partier in effective control of both our foreign intel and our foreign policy. What could go wrong? I guess it'll be easier with one guy in charge of our "diplomats" and our diplomats.

It's all about transparency and time-efficiency; notify literally everyone at the same time. That's bravery. History's greatest bravery.

Comedians got it that the so called "grownups" are not controlling a thing in the Trump misadministration.

http://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know...y-suicide-pact
Quote:
Colbert poked fun at Tillerson’s press conference, where he denied that he considered leaving the White House, but declined to comment on the “moron” allegations.

“He vehemently would rather not answer that question,” Colbert said.
The comedian also took jabs at the reported “suicide pact” that Tillerson has with Defense Secretary James Mattis and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, with each party vowing to leave if one of them is ousted.

“That’s when you know things are going great at a workplace, when people start forming suicide pacts,” Colbert said sarcastically. “They’ve also agreed that if none of them are with someone by the time they’re 70 they’ll marry each other.”
And that was from last year...

I should think the staff shuffling is actually a kinda brilliant defense against prosecution. “I really don’t know.” Will be 100% believable in every legal context and instance.

On the other hand, this comes on the heals of skipping some events on his recent trip to Africa as he was ill. Could he be seriously ill perhaps?

Or, maybe he didn’t like the travelling to Africa part? The food? All the brown people? Leaving his wife behind? (Maybe she went with?)

Just a couple hours ago, I figured the PA-18 special election would be the big political news of the day.

He's already been interviewed by Putin's reps, and apparently must've gotten the thumbs-up.

Now we just need to find out if the GOP will affirm Putin's choice.

ETA: And the torturer nominated as Pompeo's replacement at CIA.

This is why the jobs report was so good. Literally half the jobs were filling vacancies in the Trump administration.

Not surprising. This is after all reality TV and Trump has to fire people regularly in a bid to boost the all-important ratings. The show may well be canceled in a couple of years if the figures don't rise.

It really wouldn't surprise me if this had some part in the timing. Trump - and the GOP establishment - are worried enough about the optics of PA-18. I could see where a distraction to push a potential embarrassment off the front page could be useful. Say what you want about Trump but no one can deny he's media savvy.

Sure, it pushes PA-18 off the front page, but this almost in Saturday Night Massacre territory: firing your Secretary of State right after he's said something critical about Russia that would be boilerplate in any other Administration.

Seriously, there are only two interpretations of this, and both are awful:

1) Trump really is Putin's puppet, and isn't even bothering to hide it anymore; or

2) he's lost his goddamned mind.

ETA: Or both. No reason they have to be mutually exclusive.

I don't think it's particularly savvy to make your administration look confused on the day of an election you've invested some of your reputation in. Undecided or swing voters probably look down on that kind of thing.

Unfortunately, I shot my load before this thread was started:

Following up on voltaire's response to me....

Yeah, I could see the new CIA going after Assange. It seems like having Assange no longer exist in the world could be handy for many. Obviously, he's useful to Russia, but Trump is worth even more to them.

Not surprising for this meglomaniac. If you donít fall in step he just eliminates you. Heís been pushing and encouraging that agenda all along. Democratic politicians? Vote them all out and replace with Republicans. Republican politicians who donít follow his lead? Get rid of them and replace with those that kiss his ass. Media that doesnít run like a state ran propoganda machine? Call them ďfakeĒ and encourage ways to have them banned and eliminated.
Now, if he could just find a way to get rid of half the citizens of this country who donít pledge their dying allegiance to him.

Especially because it steps on the "news" of Nunes "officially" exonerating him of collusion with Russia.

There’s yet another Russian death in the UK. No idea yet if it’s linked to the one from last week, but the timing is suspicious. This is not the time to be playing games by ‘shaking up’ the US Department of State

The White House also axed some guy named Steve Goldstein at the State Department, who was Tillerson's aide and issued that statement this morning that Tillerson wanted to keep serving, hadn't talked to Trump and didn't know why he was being fired.
