adverts that turned out creepy

Take this Irish Telecom "Santa Claus" ad from 1995.

I think they were trying for "Daw, it's adorable that the cutie pie calls Santa on her toy telephone!" but looked at in hindsight, it's creepy that a strange old man can talk to a child, of any gender, through their toy phone.

There's this old commercial for Folger's coffee that people seem to think has a brother-sister incest vibe to it.

Here's a fine parody of it.

I saw a Quizno's sandwich shop ad in which the oven that toasts the sandwiches was talking to a guy with a sandwich. "C'mon, put it in me, you know you want to!" how they got away with that one I don't know.

Was the oven's voice male or female?

Yes, this one, this is the one I was going to mention. Really??? Picking colorful, candy zits off of each others' faces and eating them?!? That's not funny, that's just wrong...

If you're going to talk sandwiches, the worst by far is Subway's ill-conceived and unfortunately named "Tour de Pants" campaign where they sent Jared Fogle around to promote healthy diets and Subway subs. It turned out he was using it as opportunity to find kids to molest.

Double WTF for that horror.

This commercial for Dove chocolate always startles me a bit. The lady in her senior years is very pretty until the second scene when she bites into the chocolate. Then she reminds me of the scene with Jack Nicholson and the lady in room 217. I mean no disrespect to the actress or to demean seniors in general. Something about the way it's filmed and I guess how her wrinkles suddenly show up when she smiles (?) reminds me of bad CGI.

The current Charmin radio commercial team should not only be fired, they should be drummed out of the industry.

1. Radio commercial -
"Mooooom"
"Honey"
Woman's voiceover - "In our house we go, a lot..."

No, no, no; this is just SO WRONG! Saying, "In our house we use a lot of TP could refer to the # of people living there. A Brady Bunch or Eight is Enough househould will use a lot of TP. Saying we go a lot has a much different connotation; maybe Mom should take some cooking lessons?

2. My hieney is so Charmin shiny. Ummm, unless I'm being very intimate with someone I really don't care to know how shiny your hieney is.

The Folger's ad is a classic of this type.

A lot of the others posted in this thread were intentionally creepy, which is I think a different category.

My first thoughts were the creepy toenail fungus commercials.

Lamisil (where they pry up a toenail--eww!)
Jublia (Toe in football uniform--attached to the rest of the foot). Also eww.

Some people find the Quiznos Spongmonkeys creepy, but I find them oddly charming (probably because I'm a fan of the old Rathergood web videos).

This commercial is from Australia, for the Dickens beverage company. They are introducing a new hard cider. It's not so much creepy and kinky, like the Quizno's ad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfzxesxk_Yo

"Surprise your girlfriend with a Dicken's cider" Say that fast.

Never heard of these commercials, but the one you are calling "nauseating" has a medical condition. But still is a popular star of an incredibly popular TV series. He's making 2 million dollars this year. How 'bout you?

After, since she asked "Where's David."
That is the most disturbing 2001 derived ad I've ever seen. Notice she dropped the spoon on the floor just like the wine glass in the movie?

They should have done blood tests for whoever came up with that ad, since they must have been on something nasty.

^ Bad speakers on my end; it sounded like "Stephen/Steven" the first half dozen times.

I had a very uneasy moment when she asked "Where's David?" and the little door on the robot opened.

The fact that she found "creepy" and "disgusting" a 15-year-old kid with a very embarrising genetic disorder but who is still brave enough to make himself very public. It makes me happy that at that age he already has enough money to buy and sell her.

Awhile back the was an anti-drug commercial airing; IIRC the message was that parents need to talk to their kids about drugs no matter who uncomfortable it made them or their kids. So it had a mother popping up in random places to talk to her teenage son about drugs. One of those places was the bathroom while her son was taking a shower and she even pulled the curtain back to his embarrassment. I though that was a bit creepy, but just imagine how that would play with a father and his teenage daughter.

I don't know the brand, but it's some kind of anti-fungal. The ad says if your feet were seen as much as your hands you would take better care of them. It shows a woman with feet for hands. Ewww! Creeps me right out the back door.

What's with all the creepy Colonel Sanders(es)? The one from my youth was a kindly grandfather-type, but lately KFC has rolled out disturbing version after disturbing version. The latest is Reba Mcentire. Tepid kudos for the idea, but she's still creepy and doesn't entice me to buy their chicken (which I find revolting, anyway).

Definitely "wtf," but not from Annie. She's irritated that this kid is going around lecturing a bunch of women, out of the blue, about their shitty wifi. How do I know this? Because that's what her post says.

I don't share the creeped-out factor, but it's crazypants to infer that she's "nauseated" by the kid's genetic condition.
