Most Beautiful TV Mom

We were talking about the "hot wife/goofy dad" stereotype in another CS thread. It got me wondering who do you think was the most attractive TV mom? My vote is Natalie Lane from the "Patty Duke Show", played by Jean Byron.

I haven't given it a lot of thought, but the first name to spring to my mind was Elyse Keaton (from Family Ties).

Eva Longoria on Desperate Housewives or January Jones on Mad Men. I've never seen a mom like either one in real life!

I second (third?) Sofia Vergara. One of the most beautiful women on TV, period.

I always had a thing for Courtney Thorne-Smith of According to Jim. Not sure if her character was a mom, as I seldom watched that dumb show, but she was hot.

All of the 'Desperate Housewives' had their moments, beautiful hair, clothes, and slim figures. Patricia Heaton on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' had her occasional moments, when she actually did seem to be 'too pretty' for Raymond, as his mother once said..... January Jones ('Mad Men') was a lousy mother but channeled all her unhappiness into staying 'perfect' as a trophy wife was supposed to be.

Yup! She had a habit of playing waaaaay-to-hot for the schlub she was with on TV.

Ahem. As a Modern. Non-Sexist Male and Father of Daughters I might find this thread offensive. OTOH, Laura Petrie? My daughters, 2/3 of them gay, would agree.

I raised 'em and they are the sexist swine their Dad is.

So many good choices here.

Marilu Henner in Evening Shade.

I'll nominate Michael Learned as most beautiful woman ever to be successfully frumped up as a TV mom.

There are many good answers here I must comment on after I feed my kid, but even though I am a very strong supporter of the brunette, I have to nominate this beautiful creature:

Could not agree with this statement more.
Here is the thing though: I SHOULD find SV much more attractive, she is very much in my wheelhouse. But Julie Bowen (who I did not find all that attractive in her youth Ė Happy Gilmore) has a thing that makes me want to find a whole army to defeat just to prove I am worthy of her. Even though she is a bit past prime now, and some of her photos show it, to me she always looks like the smart lawyer on the ďDenny CraneĒ show. That is a face I would love to see across a candle-lit table every date night for all time, and face I would love to see right before I fell asleep as I gently held her Ė and wake to every morning.

By contrast Sofia Vergara seems like she is just trying too hard; too overt or something. And her face seems like the result of a team of make-up artists.

Some years ago there was a Doper who had lost weight and, early on, I told her how she resembled Julie Bowen, who wasn't famous. I'm a tool and hope she knows that I'm available. Alas, her husband was hotter than I.

Sheís not even the most beautiful woman on her show. I figured I would be the only one to say it but I guess Iím not. Not to take anything away from her, Sophia Vergara is beautiful, funny and charming. Iím not worthy to wash her car. But Iíve had a crush on Julie Bowen from the second I saw her.

I didn't realize it when I made the link above, but she is the mother of Meredith Baxter. It turns out she also introduced us to the ultimate TV fantasy daughter for my generation: Barbara Cooper (Valerie Bertinelli) as the creator of One Day at a Time which is based upon her own life as a single mom.

As far as I am concerned, she was the most elegant, beautiful woman on television in her era and easily the best part of the show Hazel. She had no where nearly enough screen time to suit me. It seems the early sixties was the golden age for TV moms, and she could hold her own against the best of them!

Makes me think, how many of these TV moms could be neighbors? Several of their husbands worked in New York City; could Laura Petri and Samantha Stevens belong to the same book club? How about others from that era? Where did Donna Reed and Beaver's mom raise their kids?

Doubtful. The Stevens' lived in either Westport, Connecticut or Patterson, New York. The Petries lived In New Rochelle, New York.

And a mom, too. They started out with three kids, then they incorporated Courtney Thorne-Smith's real-life pregnancy into the show, adding twin sons to the TV family.
