It's amazing! (Mansplaining)

It's amazing how upset the guys get when mansplaining something and you tell them to STFU. I got blocked by a relative when I did that. Oddly enough, I don't care.

DId you literally tell them to "shut the fuck up," in so many words? Yeah, I can see how that might upset somebody.

Yah, there's potentially a discussion to be had about the extent to which some men overreact to being disagreed with or ignored because their conception of masculinity includes being naturally entitled to lay down the law about stuff. But this thread ain't it.

And I bet everyone who posted, except possibly Andros is a man who wants to explain to the poor little woman how wrong she is. They can STFU.

catlfea12, I don't think you understand what mansplaining is. See, it's when a man explains to someone else, typically a woman, in a manger regarded as condescending or patronizing.

What's the point? It's like explaining WiFi to my cat.

And what the hell are you doing on a message board. You mean there's NO housework to be done?!

Of course I do, why do you think I used that term? My relative likes to pontificate about various topics, that's why I told him to STFU.

And for those who don't know what pontificate means, one of the definitions is to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner.

Does your relative come to your house and physically force you to read his posts?

Since when is that a necessary condition for being allowed to tell somebody to STFU?

Conversation, even on public social media, is a two-way street: A can say something B thinks A shouldn't have said, and B can say "Shut up" to A.

Who said it was a necessary condition? I was simply asking a question.

Well then it was a pretty stupid question, wasn't it? catflea12 says "My relative likes to pontificate about various topics, that's why I told him to STFU", and you ask "Does your relative come to your house and physically force you to read his posts?"

What's the point of asking such an obviously rhetorical question about an extremely implausible situation, unless you're trying to insinuate that catflea12 should simply ignore the annoying posts that she's not being physically forced to read rather than telling the poster to STFU?

It's not a rhetorical question if I expect an answer. And if the answer would have been "No, he doesn't" then I would have responded with "Ok"

As it is, it's more fun now watching you get all bent out of shape over one single question

I would have liked to see Abraham mansplaining to his wife (Sarah?) what the hell happened up on that hill with Isaac.

It's truly and delightfully ironic that those same people seem to assume that all other people are idiots with very poor vocabularies who need simple words explained to them. I wonder if women get upset when they womansplain like this to someone whose language skills are far superior to their own, and that person tells them to STFU. I'm thinking yes.

Seriously though, if you're pissed at a relative being a jerk and have no more to say than continued venting, go exercise or meditate or do some activity you enjoy. Coming back here will only aggravate you further because your OP will result in responses which are 99.8% pure snark.
