People are actually trying to kill me, indirectly

Infected feet. Can't walk. Parked in nursing/rehab home for a couple weeks. Okay, you're up to date.

Daughters were visiting and I was in a wheelchair. I started coughing really hard, as did a daughter. We both thought it was something we ate, but it kept getting worse. I couldn't breathe. She asked what was wrong. All I could do was point at my rescue inhaler and gasp an approximation of 'anaphylaxis.' It seems that two brothers got in a fight and one maced the other. I guess I am sensitive to mace.

There is a rule here that forbids guests from keep any of their meds at their beds. If I hadnt ignored that I would be dead, so a couple people, the macer and the rulemaker, tried to kill me. Who knew rest homes could be so exciting?

Sheesh. Try to get moved to a place in a nicer part of town, where visitors and guests don’t bring weapons.

Glad you made it through the incident.

Did the macing actually take place at the home, or did one of the brothers come in after having been maced?

My dad was in a nursing home three times over the last few years of his life. I don't remember any rule against meds at the bedside. I can understand a rule like this for meds that the staff is in charge of dispensing (e.g. antibiotics), but it seems really stupid to apply it to rescue inhalers.

Nursing homes are heavily regulated. There's probably a poster somewhere in the home with a phone number you can call to complain to the state. Maybe you should call it.

Sorry about your feet, BTW.

The mace-age happened down the hall--20 to 40 feet away. Junior seems to have spray-painted bro with mace.

I don't normally complain. That's my chief of staff's job and she does it so gleefully. More later.

Self defense, I heard. Bro had already punched him. The Western Burbs have gone to pot with The Guys mostly gone and the Rule of Law in control. I can imagine how this woulda gone if Giancana's mom were a resident. Smooth as sharkskin.

I was in a discount grocery store last year when I heard some kind of commotion. All of a sudden I could hear many people in the store coughing, and then I started coughing myself. When I got up to the register, people were discussing the fact that a woman had maced a guy who was trying to take her purse.

I hope things get better for you, dropzone.

How are you paying for your stay in the nursing facility? My dad had medicare, and every time he was discharged we were informed that he had the right to appeal the decision. They'd give us a form with a number to call if we wanted to dispute it. You may have similar rights even if you're privately insured.

Good luck with everything. I agree with Beck. If you still need care, go right back to the ER and get re-admitted.

Kids, kids, I got this. dropdad was an appeals judge for Social Security. If I don't know I have brothers who do. But for the next three months I'm just on Medicaid and it helps pass the time.

I want a power chair but my VP of Operations (still my oldest) objects because I will use it as a crutch. Fine, she can walk with my knees, but I would like to go places and do things. The magical Abilify has done that for me.

I noticed I haven't complained enough in this, a Pit thread.

A few nights ago, @ 1:35 am, someone from the laundry was wheeling a rack down my hall, cheerfully swearing while loudly gabbing with a bluetooth pal. Fucks and shits were bouncing off the walls. I asked her politely to read the room and cut out the swearing, which she did not, repeating the spectacle on her return trip. I repeated my request and she told me to fuck off.

It is a lousy job market and she just weren't raised right, but that can be fixed were she willing. However you don't talk like that in front of babushkas a million years old who already think you plan on killing them, so I reported her. My sergeant at arms (eldest) was disappointed, but sometimes top management needs to step in. I asked that they don't fire her, since all she needs is training in code switching. I am too nice.

Yeah, you're too nice. But brave. Since you can't exactly run from an irate laundry person if she got violent. Be careful. I worry so.

I lack mace but my idiot twins, when asked to bring a cane, grabbed my sword cane.

Doofusses, but I'm armed with the dullest edged weapon in history.

Yes, you are too nice. What you described seems like a firing offense to me. No one should tell a patient in a nursing facility to fuck off, especially when the patient has done nothing to deserve it. This employee has failed Human Being 101.

At my company they realized that the pool of qualified people willing to start at nine bucks an hour was drying up with the ones left oftenlacking even the basics of social graces. Corporate wont let us pay more so our noobs are in a company run training program, with classes in business, grammar, comportment, grooming, and appropriate office wear, sometimes providing some clothes. Call it code switching or acting white, we almost exclusively promote from within and this gives some kids a kick into the middle class. And if someone uses their new skills to find a better job they do it with our blessing, since that was why we do it.

One guy, late thirties, FOUR time loser (dealing), became a top salesman while making no effort to sound white as he calls CEOs and builds repeat relationships with them. A lot of this was on his own--too long in Cook County was inspirational. My own VP of Incarceration (guess who) sez Cook County has better food than her own Dupage County. I am so very proud.

But he knows better than to swear.

Most are my eldest, who has many competencies. The twins, not to be confused with The Little Girls, are...cute. One is also Chief Cook and Bottle Washer and Mistress of the Hounds.

The Little Girls, if you don't know, are adorable rodent killerz. Then there is Wrigley, an Aussie Poo with the intelligence I have come to expect in male dogs and male children, none whatsoever. He can be Officer Wriggles because he loves riding in cop cars.
