Generally accepted as true, despite proven false news.

I was curious about the Straight Dope folks thoughts about media manipulation.

I should have read your poll question more closely and not the title. I voted "Both", but actually agree with "Neither" as facts. Both Brown and Martin were criminals in the midst of committing violent assaults when they were justifiably killed.

No problem, I tried to make it clear and, failed in some way. I'm also interested in other news proven false., that most folks believe. The more cites the better. I'm trying to develop a trend here. The shooter on the grassy knoll being another example.

Hi, OP. It must make it very easy to understand the world when you perceive everything as black or white with no shades of gray. Let alone to imagine that { "Hands up, Don't shoot" Michael Brown } is a well-formulated answerable question.

I was going to bring up the old belief about not swimming within an hour of eating otherwise you would surely drown.

Obviously not the right thread.

I heard that Mikey from the Life cereal commercial ate a whole bag of Pop Rocks and then chugged a can of Coke, and then his stomach exploded.

I've seen pictures of Trayvon Martin in which he appears to be dead. Additionally, I haven't seen any conclusive evidence that he is still alive.

1. rabbit ankle Santa Claus pizza potato, I guess. I couldn’t find a question or any meaning in the 6 words you posted, so I responded in kind.

2. Trayvon Martin was killed by another man in disputed circumstances. His killer was found not guilty of second degree murder. I did not agree with the jury’s decision, and many other people didn’t either.

Now, my turn.

Which of the following do YOU believe is true?

1. More people attended Trump’s inauguration than Obama’s

2. The economy has grown at a faster rate under President Trump than it has under President Obama.

3. Donald Trump weighs 239 pounds

4. Donald Trump passed the biggest tax cut in history

5. The US is currently building a new border wall

6. Undocumented immigrants commit violent crimes at a higher rate than the general population.

7. Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election in favor of Hillary Clinton

8. Barack Obama was born in Kenya

9. Michelle Obama is biologically male

I still cannot figure out what this thread is about. Not having studied the issues in detail, I stick to the news reports that both are correct.

Don't forget that Richard Gere showed up at an ER with a gerbil in his rectum, and Rod Stewart had a quart of sperm pumped out of his stomach.

On a serious note, I have always believed that Trayvon Martin was guilty of nothing except being seen by a wannabe cop named George Zimmerman who appointed himself a neighborhood watchman. Was Martin a saint? No; he'd been in trouble with the law, but he did not deserve any of this. I do believe that if he hadn't been gunned down, he would have gone on to outgrow his troublemaking and lead a respectable life.

Vaccines don't cause autism either.

I know a guy that happened to. That shit ain't funny. Actually, a friend of a friend. Well, to be honest, it was his sister's friend, but she's trustworthy, according to my friend's friend.

Nice try, with the "not/and" but your sentence still has a subject and a predicate. Given OP's template
"Hands up, Don't shoot" Michael Brown
I'm awarding the brass ring to Ann Hedonia with her #16.

Many people believe that Sarah Palin actually claimed to be able to see Russia from her house. In actuality, it was Tina Fey doing a spoof of Palin who made that claim on Saturday Night Live. But hey, satire is more important than facts.

Sarah Palin was certainly telling the historic truth when she said Paul Revere rode naked through the streets of Coventry to keep the British from capturing the airport.

I have repeatedly debunked the one about the “space pen”. The story about how NASA supposedly spent a million dollars to develop a pen that would work in zero-g,while the Russians just used pencils.

Not true at all. And there are good reasons to not use pencils in zero-g. Break off the tip and it floats behind a control panel... Yet it persists.

Any Beatles song recorded after 1965, when played backwards, gives clues about Paul's death. Any song by any other artist, when played backwards, worships Satan.

Two ones I've heard from people in all seriousness:

Nicole Brown Simpson was not killed by OJ. A woman in Florida was found dead killed the same way.

Lacy Peterson was killed by a cult that steals babies to either sacrifice them to the devil or sell them on the black market. Or maybe both.

Yes, but when asked about her knowledge of international relations with Russia, Palin actually did say, "They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."

I first heard about Richard Gere after being exposed to the internet.

But what gets me is how shit like the Rod Stewart story spread around, pre-internet. Because I heard that while working the diesel can on an asphalt crew, when I was... 11? 12? So 1991-1992 (yes, I was young... it was summer, and my family was very, very poor, so my dad got me a job helping to bring a bit of extra money in, $20/day in cash, under the table). So all of these barely-literate road crewmen in rural South Dakota were standing around during a break talking about the Rod-Stewart-stomach-pumping story, which stuck with me, only to find out years later that it was bullshit.

Of course, nowadays these are the same idiots that would forward obvious right-wing fake bullshit via Facebook... so not much has changed, I guess.

Jimmy Carter's "Crisis of Confidence" speech (commonly known as the Malaise speech now) backfired on him in public support.

In actual fact his approval ratings shot up in the immediate aftermath of the speech but reset itself back to where it started after some cabinet changes and of course the hostage crisis.

It was also Ted Kennedy, not Ronald Reagan, who first used the word malaise in referring to the Carter Administration.
