Nevada Democratic Debate February 2020

Just about 30 minutes left until face-off (or whatever you call the start of a debate; I'm a hockey fan). Streaming feeds all over the place online including:

this CBS news site
this other CBS News site
NBC News
MSNBC

Get your popcorn; get your drinks! Find a comfy chair; I have a feeling this one is gonna be fun!

It'll be interesting to see how Bloomy handles this. He's got a lot of dirt on him. I think Warren and Biden will especially be on him. He should do less attacking of his opponents and talk more about what he wants to do if he wants to continue. The other candidates seem too busy attacking their fellow nominees. I'm hoping it's not another shit show of, "Oh, yeah? What about when you blah blah blah...".

Yeah; I'd prefer if they avoided that kind of bullshit. But I know they won't, because they are people and people can be sooooo disappointing.

That's prolly true, eh.

He could go on the offensive, Trump style, too. Hope that doesn't happen either. "You two are women. Trump will automatically beat you. You're too old, you're not even a democrat, you're gay, and this country won't support you..." blah blah blah.

A good debate to me is take turns, tell me why you're the best candidate, then shut up.

Aye; that's pretty much the ideal… so I'm sure they'll fall well short of it tonight.

I could easily see him coming off as a smug arrogant asshole.

But I can also see him coming off as the smartest and most politically savvy on the stage, even as he bluntly points out that he wouldn't be in now if Biden, Buttigieg, or Klobuchar had any real paths to winning the nomination let alone the White House at this point, and that Sanders may be on path for the nomination but for losing the general and more Senate seats.

Not sure if either narrative will prevail!

Bernie looks physically ill.

I liked Warren's attacks on Bloomberg.

Bloomberg's lack of practice in debating appears to be a big factor tonight. (Thank fuck.)

And go Mayor Pete.

We're 15 minutes into the debate and Bloomberg has already been totally forgotten. I can't believe anyone actually thought he ever had a shot. I've been saying all along that he's a pathetic putz with absolutely zero charisma. Hell, I thought he would have at least prepared some kind of dramatic introduction to make, since this was his debut on the debate stage - with all the hype he's built up, he would want to really say some exciting and engaging words and grab people's attention when he finally gets his platform at the debate. Nope. Nope nope nope. He has all the charisma of a dead squirrel. Christ, he makes Biden look and sound like Frank Sinatra.

Neither do I. But I think everyone on stage might be a viable VP candidate. Pres? My pick? Still don't have one. (I'm independent, but won't be voting GOP for a LOOOONG time.)

I don't know. People who vote solely on ads may vote for him.

The question is why didn't steyer get off the ground while Bloomberg did. Both are self funding billionaires. Yeah Bloomberg spent more, but still. Is it name recognition?

Bloomberg can't keep his disdain off his face, and it makes him Trumpy.

I wonder if he will take all his money and go home.

Warren really wielding the hammer right now; gotta admire how well she did that.

ETA: Biden sees the opening and jumps into the pile-on!

He went from nothing to 15-20% in the polls.

He doesn't have to win, he just needs to bribe delegates in a contested convention.

Bloomberg is not going down either narrative so hard yet but not sure if the tag teaming on him doesn’t end up helping him more than hurt him.

He's gonna have to do about 10 or 20 town halls to get the final votes. He's not a good debater. I think he can easily shame Trump in a debate, but he's not doing the first steps very well, so far.

Man there's a lot of batshit energy on the stage tonight.

This is some seriously catty shit. These moderators have lost control.

And Biden continues the noun-verb-obama.

He's not coming across as sympathetic, though. He comes off as arrogant and entitled, both in response to Warren's non-disclosure agreement queries and why his tax return has not yet been released. "I just got into this race 10 weeks ago!" I mean, seriously?

Again, he doesn't need to win 1,990 delegates. He just needs to make sure Bernie doesn't get 1,990 delegates and then he can offer financial incentives to the democratic party to vote for a moderate in the contested convention.

I thought it was

Buttigieg
Warren
Sanders (this was close tho)
Biden
Klobuchar
Bloomberg (is he still onstage?)

Klobuchar seemed to be having a hard time answering Buttigieg. Not that she couldn't or there was no answer but she looked visibly upset and was rattled while trying to formulate a response. Not knocking her for it. She is a very smart person and anyone can get flustered. You just hope it doesn't happen on a national stage like this.

Warren to the rescue though.

Also, Buttigieg is clearly a smart guy who is well prepared.

Worse than that though: he sounds weak. He sounds feeble. His performance on this stage is so utterly flaccid and half-assed, it's like he really honestly believes that he doesn't need to try to sell himself to voters. His stage presence makes Joe Biden look like Freddie Mercury. He's tedious, dry, completely humorless - and this is after ALL the hype about how he's the only one who can beat Trump because he's the only one who can afford to outspend Trump.

Interesting. I'm taking about the debate on two message boards and the other one thought Buttigieg completely misfired on her attack on Klobuchar and she ate his lunch.

Biden may be on his way back up, if not for his forceful debate, than because he probably is getting all that support back that went to Bloomberg.

Biden is promising to do things he has never done or worked for in his entire career.

There is no way in hell he would actually try to prosecute oil industry execs and whatnot.

I'd be shocked if he even tried to end their subsidies.

Now I'm thinking whoever wins, take Pete as the VP. It would be a big selling point.
