Since the Sears Tower was bested by that Malaysian buildng only because of the spire how about we build a building with a 1,000 foot spire. Aside from the fact it would probably fall over if you did do you think they’d count it? ---

Just because of this sort of thing, ‘they’ have created 4 different subcategories of this record. IIRC, these are: 1. Height to highest occupied floor (Sears Tower) 2. Height to highest architectural element (Petronas Towers) 3. Height to top of antenna (World Trade Center) 4. Height to roof(?) (Sears Tower) ---

So, where does this leave the [URL HREF=“[http://www.cntower.ca/](http://www.cntower.ca/)”]CN Tower? It is ~553 m / ~1815 feet. The CN Tower is officially classed as the world’s tallest “freestanding structure”; it is essentially a _really big_ communications antenna with a revolving restaurant and a couple of observation decks along for the ride. Is the record you cited only for “office buildings”? There was an [URL HREF=“[http://www.thestar.com/back\_issues/ED20000401/news/20000401NEW01e\_CI-APRIL1.html](http://www.thestar.com/back_issues/ED20000401/news/20000401NEW01e_CI-APRIL1.html)”]article in the [URL HREF=“[http://www.thestar.ca](http://www.thestar.ca)”]Toronto Star a week or so ago saying how the MTR Building in Hong Kong was going to be taller than the CN Tower. Trizec-Hahn, the operators, revealed a plan to heighten the CN Tower… but then, it was the 1 April edition of the Star, so who knows… * * * Rigardu, kaj vi ekvidos… ---

I seem to recall hearing that there is a smokestack in (Eastern?) Europe that is supposed to be in the tallest structure race as well. I _think_ I saw it in a Poundstone book called _The Ultimate_. Or maybe I just haven’t had enough coffee yet this morning.
