# 1 in 5 Americans were born after 9/11

The war in Afghanistan has been going on for a long time… I was curious how many Americans weren’t even around since my sister didn’t know why we were there to begin with.

[In 2019 22% of the population was 18 or younger](https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/AGE295219). Therefore in 2021 I think it is safe to say 1 in 5 Americans were born after 9/11.
