10 Push-ups? NO PROBLEM!!

I think I must be in the worst shape of anybody reading this thread.

I couldn’t even do ONE.

I did 52. That’s about all I got.

Another fun pushup is to put your feet on something about 2-2 1/2 feet off the ground, then as you lower yourself pickup a foot, keeping it in a straight line with your body. Alternate back and forth which foot you pick up

I begin to dislike those around 20-30

10 reps of 300, 10 of 325, 350 and as many as he can of 375.

Last semester (spring) I got to doing pushups for entirely commercial breaks . . . 2 minutes of pushups. Get kinda fun after a while, seeing people’s reactions and such.

I’d love to do 53 tonight, but I have to go to bed soon. PC in parents room and all.

Let’s see, I nearly broke my nose doing those accursed diamond-floor-nose pushups, so I’ll try the benty ones…
10! I nearly died, but I did ten! I can do ten normals in PE, but I’m a lot more winded this time.

Hm, I want to do one handed ones…

0… I can’t do one. Ah well, I’m a 120 pound, 5’10 weakling.

(I can just see it now, the next snickers commercial featuring Iampunha and Scylla…
Iampunha: I can bench almost as much as my dad.
Scylla: I invented benches.)

If I am doing this right, I did six on a full stomach and only quit, not because of muscle strain, but the pressure from the gut area I nearly hurled up my breakfast.

FTR, I can do 10 men style push ups. And probably 25 girly style push ups. Not on a full stomach.
[entering wayback machine] Back in high school, when I played volleyball, I could do girly styled push ups and clap on the up part. It’s all fun and games until you screw up getting your hands back in place and smash your nose on the gym floor.

Naturally, this was a waistline ago. All I can do on the up part is burp.

sigh

My first attempt resulted in cracking my head on the corner of the desk.

My second try I did three. I think I busted one of internal organs and popped a vessel in my forehead, but it made me laugh like I was three, so it’s all good.

Well I did 20 in perfect form, but I don’t feel like doing anymore.

Well i stopped counting but im pretty sure i did 10 and could do 20

Call me when you can do 40. FTR I do 10 on each arm, changing sides until I can’t do that. Then I keep going but I stop counting. Fun stuff.

wow, I must be in better shape than I thought. I didn’t start feeling much of anything until I got past 30, and I quit at 40.

I think in a couple weeks I’ll be able to outdo all of you guys.

In my very best attempt to not sound smug, I’ll chime in with having done a quick easy 20.

They are tougher than normal push ups, but not remarkably so. They work the back and shoulders more.

FTR, I’m 6’3" 215 lbs, and I don’t hit the weights very often these days. I’m not in spectatcular shape, and my chest is my least developed muscle group.

At least it killed a little time on a Saturday night. I might add them to my routine for kicks, and see if I can get these shoulders in their old shape.

I assumed the pushup position, and I seem to have fallen asleep, 'cause it’s two hours later and there’s drool on the floor where mny face was.

Atleast you were able to assume some sort of position last night…

I would try but at 5’11" 225lbs I’m usually not one for doing pushups if I don’t have to.

I tried. I got to 8 before my dog thought something was hurting me and jumped on me in a valient(sp?) effort to save me.

Did anybody else wake up with lower abdominal pain? Cause hell, I do 150ish crunches every night, and those three nutty push-ups I did yesterday have made laughing an unpleasant experience…

Not me . . . but I usually do pushups before bed.

[hijack]

I just tried those behind-the-head pushups Bear was talking about and I was able to do a few before I sufficiently freaked my father out completely! Go me!

For perspective:

The standard changed a bit a couple of years ago, but when I was 18, the Army physical fitness standard for 17-21 year old men was 52 pushups in 2 minutes, without taking either arm off the ground. You can stick your butt up in the air between reps.

If you couldn’t do that, you were ineligible for promotion, and were subject to being kicked out. The maximum on the scale was 82 in two minutes. Most I ever did in 2 minutes was 77.

I’m not too impressed with 10, as a raw number. But anyone who struggles and strains and does more pushups than he THOUGHT he could do, and does it on a regular basis, has my respect, and before long he’ll be cranking them out just fine.

Ladies? I believe your minimum for that age group was 16. No, you don’t get to do knee pushups…your technique is the same as a man’s, you just don’t have to do so many of them.

on a related note, try this (not really a push-up, but DAMN hard!)

balance on one foot, while the other is bent and touching your other leg. (Your knees should align with each other.)
Now, lower yourself, slowly, until your knee barely touches the ground or floor.
Not so bad you say? Well, try to get back up again while remaining on that one leg.
I am in a not perfect, but still good, shape and still (sadly) cannot do even one full one. I get halfway up then fall over, and it’s not because of bad balance because I am damn good at balancing myself.
