How about the careful use of the phrase 'sectarian violence" as a euphemism for “civil war.”

\*"We also need to examine ways to mobilize talented American civilians to deploy overseas, where they can help build democratic institutions in communities and nations recovering from war and tyranny.

In these dangerous times, the United States is blessed to have extraordinary and selfless men and women willing to step forward and defend us. These young Americans understand that our cause in Iraq is noble and necessary – and that the advance of freedom is the calling of our time. They serve far from their families, who make the quiet sacrifices of lonely holidays and empty chairs at the dinner table. They have watched their comrades give their lives to ensure our liberty. We mourn the loss of every fallen American – and we owe it to them to build a future worthy of their sacrifice."\*

Bush, you fucking coward! You fucking AWOL coward! If you’re so gung-fucking-ho on mobilizing talented Americans and calling on extraordinary and selfless men and women willing to step forward and defend us, _then why don’t you make your elegible daughters enlist right fucking now_? Because you’re a cowardly prick, that’s why.

Go to Hell.

I got the impression that was a glancing reference to _civilian_ service in Iraq, kind of like a Peace Corp, or something. From there, he segwayed into the standard blubbering praise for Our Heroes. Not that the praise should not be spoken, just not by him.

And I have no daughters, armed or otherwise, but if I had, and were she in a foxhole, just about the last person I would want watching her back would be one of the Bush twins.
I suppose the argument could be made that this wasn’t Bush’s war at all. Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz and the other “smart advisors” had been planning it all along, and they were just fortunate to get a stupid enough president that they could talk into carrying out their evil scheme.

I have no idea how true that is.
Along with that, the new Fox News take seems to be that he let the generals run it for 3 1/2 years, but now is really going to do something about Iraq. He’s such a nice guy, you see, that he couldn’t stand to hurt their feelings by firing them.

Didn’t Congress charter the ISG? I guess we’ll never know if their recommendations would have done any good. I think Poppy and his people need to come to the White House, take off their belts, and give that ungrateful boy of his a whuppin.
Or just put a rock on top of the TV and stare at it. Zero intelligence is better than negative intelligence; Bush is the living incarnation of the old joke that goes “Watch him very carefully. Then do the exact opposite.”
Plus, rocks serve important functions; they add minerals to soil, they aid against erosion, they can add aesthetics to a landscape.

In fact, if I had to choose between a rock as Leader of the Free World and W–I choose the rock. No contest.
I loved Jon Stewart’s take on the speech. I think we are essentially fucked. Like **Eve** , I am dealing with my own shit storm and can’t fuss too much about W’s mess.

But the fact that he and his buds have fucked up this country’s future which most likely won’t get sorted until my youngest is an adult (he’s 8) truly enrages me.

Yes, the library thing was what I noticed right away. Was he trying to convince us that he’s actually READ those books?? It did NOT work, if so. I can’t stand his constant deer-in-the-headlights look, and his speech patterns are awful. His body language is dreadful. He’s a terrible speaker. I don’t know if I could listen to him if he was saying anything that WASN’T nuts.

My youngest (and only) is only four months old.

I would like to thank Dubya for providing her and her generation a global challenge which they’ll have to overcome. Not only will they get to take on global warming, but also a world in which everyone who isn’t an American WASP is turned against us.

Still, she seems pretty bright. I imagine she’ll be able to handle half of it.

That was the oddest comparison I’ve come across in awhile. It would be funny, if it weren’t so tragic. W isn’t worthy of being Lincoln’s drummer boy.

Although, if memory serves and history is correct-they both had substance abuse problems (or was Lincoln only depressive-I can’t remember, too lazy to go look).

I think that speech may have been the first time Bush was ever IN a liberry. Perhaps Laura showed him the way…

_Celtic warrior blood flowed in her veins, but as a gladiatrix-slave in Londinium’s arena, Rhyddes was nothing more than a wild thing in a gilded cage. Yet though her Roman masters owned her body, she swore that none would claim her soul. How was it, then, that Marcus Calpurnius Aquila, noble son of the Roman governor, could make her yearn for things beyond her reach?_

Not sure how that’s supposed to help us achieve victory in Iraq, frankly, but I’ll leave the details to our divinely inspired leader.
