I’ve always got this exact feeling from what I’ve seen and heard of him. I recall that he was considered enough of a prick that some folks thought he might have done this intentionally (an idea which I find entirely implausible, but the fact that it was considered was a demonstration of the opinion he was held in).
That was partly why I avoided the movie on its first run. However, I thought the movie was really well done. Franco was excellent at portraying an asshat who managed to do this incredible thing.
