I am pretty sure they knew quickly that it was nothing. However the chance to make a public display was too good to pass up. A little bit of fear goes a long way.
Like when the yearly raids made by a huge number of IRS agent on a seemingly normal family just happens at the beginning of every tax season.We willl be scared straight.

Yeah right, as you well know Bricker, the road to criminal charges often starts with an interview, I give you the case of Michael Crowe as a perfect example.[

Two days after the murder, police arrested him and accused him of plotting and carrying out the murder of his younger sister. His parents, who didn’t know he was being questioned as a suspect, were shocked and confused.

After two days of questioning - alone, without parents or a lawyer - Michael had given the police a videotaped confession. Police said they had first become suspicious when, in the hours after the murder, they noticed that Michael seemed unconcerned and played a handheld game while the rest of the family seemed more upset…
