15 Minutes of Fame

Dammit! I TOLD the MTV guy we should do that, but he was all “nooooo! I’m the MTV creative guy here not you” Turns out he screwed up my 15"
maybe that’s why I hate warhol so much.
nah, its the crappy art and even crappier social commentary.

Which show was it? When did you appear, and did you win anything? As an avid game show freak, it’s possible I may have seen your appearance.

My 15 minutes were used by Mr. Moto.

Actually, my mom tells me that when I was young, I was featured in the introduction to an English language news program in Germany (where we lived at the time). My clip said something like: “And now, the news.” And then I just looked all cute and precocious (or at least as much as I could muster). But I have no memory of that, so I think I should get a do-over.

I’ve had two.

I was in a group of 6 high school students from Tulsa that were the first to study at a university in China. We were the subject of a documentary called “Project China” - it won a Peabody. I’m still waiting on the royalties.

And, I had a question answered in More of the Straight Dope. “How does a CRT make yellow?” or something to that effect.

It was Jeopardy, and the show aired in June of 2000. I came in second.

You may have seen me if you remember me pulling out second place by being the only one to get Final Jeopardy right. The category was “Olympic Names.”

Second place, btw, is good for a week on the beach in Puerto Rico. Mrs. Moto and I used it as a honeymoon.

My very first SDMB thread was called “My 15 Minutes”, which was about me being published at http://www.workingfortheman.com .

My real 15 minutes was being editor of my university newspaper. The newspaper staff and the student government officers hated each other, and the student government council once burned a stack of our papers on the steps of the administration building. That made the city newspaper. Also, a local radio commentator developed an obsession with us and for several months his commentaries lambasted the liberalism and decadence of various of our features. Our response was to start printing veiled hints that he had an unnatural affection for sheep. Hey, it was the 70s.

I also had a software review published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

A bit of coverage from theTelemark Skiing World Championships.

I was an extra in the movie “Keeping the Faith.” You see me for literally 3 seconds, but I’m there! Shortly thereafter there’s a closeup of the friend who invited me (who was sitting elsewhere in the temple for that scene).

I was interviewed on the local public access channel with a friend about our improv troupe, and then we performed a few games.

So was that for “Jackass” or “True Life: My Crotch is on Fire”?

“Made: I wanna be on MTV spring break no matter what”
