So I’m curious, has any team ever taken all 4 series to game 7, therefor playing the maximum number of games, and won the stanley cup? I don’t recall any…

I would say no Cup winner has gone 16-12. That’s because I’ve read the stat that no team that won the first two rounds in seven games each ever won in the third round.

The current playoff setup has been around too long, less than 20 years I believe. For a while the first round was best of 5 like the NBA.
