Rats… too late. Last weekend on NPR they did a whole segment on the song “Wildfire”, which I couldn’t get out of my head the rest of the day. It’s not on the list, but it should be…
I knew the guy that changed the words not long after it came out. His name was Orville. I don’t know his last name and have not seen him in years.
I walked in a bar in Lodi, Ca. and he started singing Lucille with all of the words changed. It was hilarious. I remember that it started out:
“In a barroom in Tolider, I whipped out my, ( a short pause and then) switch blade”
The other part that I remember and use in kareoke is the chorus:
“You picked a fine time to leave me my dear,
With 3 pregnant daughters and a son that’s gone queer,
One’s smokin dope,
One’s snortin coke,
And here you are sellin your rear,
You picked a fine time to leave me my dear.”
I hear that Orville moved out of Lodi. If I ever see him again, I will get all of the words.
