# 1967 Israel attack against USS Liberty

I would like to know the straight dope on the USS _Liberty_ incident, in the news again on its 40th anniversary. Why did Israel attack this ship in the Six Day War? Did LBJ and the world media cover it up? Why? This seems to be an especially hard subject to find unbiased information. That should be a good start. Since this does not have a definitive answer I’d suggest if you want to discuss it further the Great Debates forum would be more suitable (just an FYI).
