Iron Butterfly…They would have rocked the place down!

Curious why they did not play???
A Truly gifted group of musicians, I’ve seen them twice in the last decade.
Original Lead Guitarist, Erik Braun, passed away last year.

The group had 2 hits in '69 off the Ball Album, “In the Time of Our Lives” and
“Soul Expierience”

Not alot of stuff available from I.B. other than the 5 Atco albums and a live
Bootleg from the Galaxy Club.

These guys were the original “Heavy Metal” Kings!

Interesting that the first rock concert I ever went to (a few months after Woodstock) was Iron Butterfly, and second on the bill was It’s A Beautiful Day–both bands that were dropped from the Woodstock bill. If only Jeff Beck had been there, I would have made the trifecta!

Anyone ever seen the footage of Melanie performing “Birthday of the Sun” at Woodstock? Definitive proof that somebody was high when they booked her.

Richie Havens lives up in my neck of the woods. He still performs, albeit infrequently.

I met him quite a few years ago. I was shooting a Native American Ceremony in Pace college in lower Manhattan. He had brought his grandson to witness the ceremony. As far as I know, he isn’t Native American but thought it was a good thing for the little boy to see. I spotted him, and asked if he was interested in talking or would prefer to be left in “private person” mode.

He was grateful that I’d asked him that. We spoke for about half an hour. A more gentle soul I’ve rarely encountered anywhere in my life…
